You know you're doing badly when you're going with the "get the felons to vote for us" campaign.

"MTV, VH1, Comedy Central unite to pay fees, fines to help formerly incarcerated Floridians vote"

or one could say Republicans were total assholes in denying them the vote after they've served their time & just not the fines they can't afford

"or one could say Republicans were total assholes in denying them the vote after they've served their time & just not the fines they can't afford"

So you also support allowing ex-felons to purchase firearms once they're released? You know, as long as we're going with the whole "they served their time so they're completely redeemed of their previous crimes" angle.

the Floridian people voted to allow felons to get their right to vote back

so Republicans assholes passed a measure to say no vote til they also pay fines

if the Floridian people vote to allow felons to have guns back then fine

& they probably would as Floridians are crazy

So why do you think felons should vote before they have repaid their debts to society?

because rich felons get their vote back & poor ones don't

they've still served their prison time either way

the Floridian people voted for it... probably as they are mostly felons or eventual felons

Generally the fines are excessive, but you can also get most of them waived if your PO is cool, if not you really have to work at it and its a coin toss that can piss off your PO.

The PO should not be in charge of debt collection management.

You want to talk greedy? Ive seen guys get charged 2-4k to go in and plead guilty. How the fuck are public servants charging $500/minute? court fees are out of pocket.

order of events:

1)

"
In November 2018, Florida voters passed Amendment 4, a measure that restores voting rights to certain felons (nearly 1.4 million people) once they have served their sentences, including parole and probation. Those convicted of murder and sexual offenses remain unable to vote.
"

clearly indicating the people of Florida wanted non-murder/sex-offense felons to regain voting rights

-------------

2)

"
In March 2019, a state law was passed that limits Amendment 4. That law requires former felons to either pay all fees that they owe as part of their case or get their sentence modified in order to register to vote. At the time of its passing, this law prevented nearly 775,000 felons from voting.
"

so that's a standard Republicans' voter suppression effort

------------------

3)

OP article... people helping do what Floridians voted for & Republican politicians shat on

so this is not a case of D's being desperate, it's a case of R's being assholes

Honestly I dont think a crime should be able to take your vote away.

For example lets say you sell drugs on the side. Does anyone say " I would do that but I'm afraid of losing my vote". Not once, ever.

It has no deterence factor at all and it has no redeeming factor, so its just an odd punishment for no reason.

so it's even worse than i originally wrote as it's "fees" not "fines"
