Do they just make shit up to sell ads?

Read these two networth descriptions.

It's been a rough year for the actor, but at least he has his millions of dollars to ease the pain. 74-year-old Tim Curry has taken the No. 1 spot on People With Money’s top 10 highest-paid actors for 2020 with an estimated $58 million in combined earnings.

UPDATE 07/10/2020 : This story seems to be false. (read more)

Tim Curry tops annual list of highest-paid actors

In 2018 it looked like the actor’s spectacular career was winding down. Suddenly, he was back on top. People With Money reports on Tuesday (October 6) that Curry is the highest-paid actor in the world, pulling in an astonishing $58 million between September 2019 and September 2020, a nearly $30 million lead over his closest competition.

People With Money’s factors

In compiling this yearly list, the magazine considers factors such as upfront pay, profit participation, residuals, endorsements and advertising work.

The English actor-singer-composer has an estimated net worth of $185 million. He owes his fortune to smart stock investments, substantial property holdings, lucrative endorsement deals with CoverGirl cosmetics. He also owns several restaurants (the “Fat Curry Burger” chain) in London, a Football Team (the “Grappenhall Angels”), has launched his own brand of Vodka (Pure Wondercurry - England), and is tackling the juniors market with a top-selling perfume (With Love from Tim) and a fashion line called “Tim Curry Seduction”.

The ranking is significant for many Tim fans, who have been waiting for his triumphant return to the glory days for what seems like a lifetime.

I believe it. Tim Curry is both a nation treasure and phenomenal actor.

I like Tim curry, what started me searching his networth was him doing fanmio videos and knowing he is wheelchair bound from a stroke.

But all they did was switch the names between him and dozens of other celeba.

" the fat curry burger"-Tim curry

" the fat apple burger" for Fiona Apple

The rest is literally wording down to a T.

Based on description here but without clicking through, I'd say one of two things:

1. A super low effort content farm.

Basically, write a computer program that takes an article template and plays mad libs with it, substituting celebrity names into blanks to generate an article. When people come to your page, you show them ads and make money. Search engines try to derank content farms but it sounds like this slipped through?

2. Spam from a reputation management firm.

Say that I'm Tim Curry. I google myself and am unhappy with the results. Maybe there is an article like, "Did Tim Curry kidnap a murder an 11 year old girl in 1991? We deserve the truth!" I don't like that this comes up when people Google me. So I pay a company to make it go away. Among other strategies, firm might try to put out content that ranks higher than the thing I don't want to see. So now you see an SEO friendly article whose only purpose is to push something else down or off the front page.

Also, maybe the facts in this "article" are true about some other entertainer who doesn't approve of it. If you write a version of this article about every other celebrity out there and avoid getting flagged by search engines, people won't see the "Will Smith" version of the article as the true one and all the others as fake, they'll just see weird celebrity ad libs.

My money is in option #1

As an example of people playing this game IRL, consider Boris Johnson's bus:
