The US courts have a heavy Catholic lean.

"Only atheists should be allowed to hold office"

Not allowed... but ideally the society you live in is sensible enough so that that would automatically overwhelmingly be the case.

Revealingly, in the US it is pretty much the opposite. An openly atheist person pretty much doesn't stand a chance of being elected president, for instance.

Pedophiles are not necessarily gay. Two different kettles of fish.

Pedophiles like young children.

Believing in the power of prayer has nothing to do with enforcing the rule of law.

Patom, Men, have sexual relations with boys is both gay and pedophilic in nature.

Patom is saying women can be pedophiles as well.

Nekran

Your "sensible" atheist culture has destroyed the nuclear family and taught six year olds that they can change their gender. Your people are statistically bereft of happiness and lack a reason for existence. Lacking a god in the sky to guide your life, you turn to government as a surrogate master.

Next to that, I'll take the happy lady who puts ash on her face once a year.

Obam, Mabey, but in relation to the pope that doesnt make sense to me. Do they have female priests? I didnt think so, but I dont keep tabs.

Habebe, the way you put it would lead to the conclusion that all gays are pedophiles.

Or, like, being gay has nothing to do with being a pedophile.

Wow... that was some insane drivel, Rugian. Even by your standards.

Obaminated, I'm very much against banning religion. I think religion is stupid, but I'd fight for people's right to believe in stupid things. I just think ideally, society is organised well enough that people are educated and hopeful enough to not believe in inane nonsense.

Rugian, I'll elaborate, as I felt kind of sad for you there.

First of all, not only is the nuclear family still the norm, I also don't give a flying fuck about it. People should divorce if they're unhappy together. My nephews have two moms and have a great life and there's no indication out there at all that they are an exception. And if people for some unfathomable reason want to raise kids without a partner, that's fine by me too.

Second of all, if you need ancient fiction to give you a reason to exist, that is fine by me, but also so very weird. I mean... I don't have a problem with learning values from fiction... we all do that. From Spot the dog over Batman to whatever the fuck you like to read/watch/listen to, learning from fiction is fine and normal. Pretending it is superreal and getting mad at people who point out that that's absurd, is stupid though. And no matter how much you believe your favourite fiction is real, it should never ever trump the laws society agreed upon.

Third of all, a reason for existence is something you have to find yourself. I don't buy for a nanosecond that your reason for existence is religiously inspired either. And if it is, judging from your posts here, you have been sucking bad at it and must be feeling like a proper failure. Or I don't know this fringe religion you adhere to.

People always say "but you have no reason to exist without a god", but I feel like it's the other way around. If you believe in all that afterlife nonsense, it completely cheapens this life to some sort of lame test for "the real life" that is organised by what is usually a very petty charachter.

I only have the one finite life. And I have to make something awesome of it. And all the good I do, I do to improve this world. And all the bad I do, is on me and me alone. I don't blame imaginary beings for my shortcomings... I own them and improve myself. And I love the life I am living. I live to travel and see the world's wonders. To taste the finest whiskies. To eat the finest foods. To learn about the mindblowing wonders of this universe and to explore my own mind to the fullest. And most of all, to share all these things with the people I love.

I have a personal goal of writing a book I'm happy about myself and what I hope most of all to still happen in my life is the discovery of alien life. It would ensure that no matter how badly humanity fucks up, the universe is most definitely still full of unimaginably wondrous and crazy things. I mean, I assume that in any case, but certainty would be amazing.

I've not read anything in those ancient books that got anywhere close to better reasons to live. But hey, if praying 7 times a day or wearing the right thing on your head or chopping off a bit of your penis (this should be illegal to do to minors withoud medical necessity btw... a good example of what should be sensible law trumping inane beliefs) is what is important to you, then you should totally fucking do those things. It'd feel sad to me if those are the things your life revolves around, but why should you care? Do your thing and let the rest of us do ours.

Nekran is correct. Religion is a cultish following, generally adhered too by stupid people.

I would say however it will be difficult to move beyond such mass cults with current human genetics. Remember, even our most advanced subtypes are just barely removed from pre-civilization intelligence, on evolutionary timescales. The majority of humans might need something to blindly follow.

Better to have it be a pacifying priest than an sjw troublemaker or a communist or a nazi.

Yeah you are calling the person who graduated first in her class at notre dame law school "stupid "

I would add that being athiest is not a guarantee of intelligence. The purple haired sjw that hates white men and wants to abolish the family is obviously retarded.

Though she is equally a blind follower of a retarded cult. Perhaps an even more damaging cult. Catholics, while retarded, have at least proven to be stable and able to carry on a civilization.

Religion forms a sense of community. An extended family. For that reason alone they are usually good for a society.

"Habebe, the way you put it would lead to the conclusion that all gays are pedophiles."

I would have found it redundant to say "gay" if that's what Id thought.

To clarify, I only prefaced pedophile with gay in this situation because I was referring specifically preist-boys.

So yes I agree, two different kettles of fish.
