job on the Pandemic. Why are Nursing Homes still out begging for donations of PPE's.

I must confess, I was blown away tonight watching the local news from Bangor when the had a segment on about the problems Nursing Homes are facing in the midst of this pandemic. Here we are over 10 months into this shit storm and we're still not insuring that the frontline workers are being properly supplied with essential equipment to protect them and their patients.

To all you Trump supporters, is there any reason why we can't supply our health care workers with PPE's?

I'm not sure if any of you are familiar with Nursing Homes in this country.

They have always had trouble with staffing long before the Pandemic. Nursing homes rely on CNA's to give 98% of the care that residents need. These are the people that are in direct contact with the residents. They get them out of bed, clean them and their beds. get them to eat their food or literally feed them, pay attention to the little things that are indicators of problems. You may ask how I know this and I'll tell you my wife did that work for 20 years.

The turnover rate of CNA's in nursing homes is one of the highest for any profession. It's not only physically hard, it is emotionally hard. Most of the time they are working shorthanded. Adding more work to be shared with those that showed up for work.

With the Pandemic the shortage of workers is even worse because those wishing to get the qualifications to be a CNA aren't allowed inside a Nursing Home for their clinical training. As if there is a long line of people willing to put their lives at risk working in a Nursing Home. Add to all that the pay sucks. It takes some very special people to be willing to do the job of a CNA in a Nursing Home setting.

The PPE shortages never fully went away, they just stopped grabbing headlines. A lot of the mask PPE is not able to be used properly because of the shortages (aka, reusing them when you're supposed to throw them away).

It's still a very real issue.

obaminated, for one thing, nursing homes do NOT use ventilators. They are used in Hospital settings only with a team of specialists.
Secondly, to my knowledge, there is no shortage of ventilators at the present time.

The op question is in regard to face masks and other PPE's that help prevent nurses and care givers from transmitting diseases to others. In nursing homes the vast majority of the residents could be considered highly vulnerable.
'RESIDENTS', that is the operative word. Nursing HOMES, the residents are there for a reason. Many, if not most, of them can no longer care for themselves. What little remains of their lives deserve as much protection as we can give them.

The reason masks work in an operating room is they wash their hands, put on the mask then they don't touch the mask or their face. Also they have a better grade mask.
Reason they are not working out in the general public is because very few people will put them on then leave them alone. People who are consistently touching their mask/face might as well not wear one.
