"California Governor Gavin Newsom reportedly ignored own COVID guidelines at birthday party

California Gov. Gavin Newsom reportedly violated his state's COVID-19 guidelines by going to a birthday party in Napa with more than three households in attendance.

The Chronicle reported that Newsom and his wife Jennifer Siebel Newsom attended longtime adviser Jason Kinney's 50th birthday party at French Laundry in Yountville (Napa County) on Nov. 6, and there were over 12 guests in attendance.

The state guidelines for social gatherings reads, "Gatherings that include more than 3 households are prohibited. This includes everyone present, including hosts and guests. Remember, the smaller the number of people, the safer."

According to The Chronicle, representatives for Newsom and Kinney "did not dispute" there were "more than three" households in attendance. A Newsom spokesperson defended the party at the restaurant by stating it was held outdoors, and said the governor and his wife "followed public health guidelines and the restaurant’s health protocols."

California has enforced some of the strictest COVID-19 rules in the country, and Newsom himself has stated that large social gatherings are the primary driver of spread in his state. During a press conference this week, Newsom said "people are letting their guard down,” and warned against different households mixing for the holidays.

Newsom's guidelines, released in early October, drew mockery on the internet, since one requirement is that individuals can only "remove their face coverings briefly to eat or drink," which was interpreted by some to mean masks must be worn in between bites of food.

Earlier this year, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was also found to be in violation of local health orders when she visited a San Francisco hair salon that was ordered closed by the city.

Lockdown rules only apply to plebs. Our political masters don't respect their own orders.

Fuck this Covid chicanery already. Don't be afraid to attend Thanksgiving this week, because these elitists clearly aren't.

The amount of hypocrisy from all political leaders worldwide has been stunning. From Pelosi to Cuomo to Trump to Newsom...

Adding the mayor of Denver to the list:

"The mayor of Denver is under fire after he took a flight to see his family for Thanksgiving — after urging his constituents to avoid traveling amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mayor Michael Hancock jetted off to Mississippi to celebrate the holiday with his wife and daughter, News 9 reported Wednesday.

That very morning, Hancock had tweeted, “Pass the potatoes, not COVID,” along with an advisory that urged people to stay home and hold virtual gatherings."

Adding the governor of New York to the list:

NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo cancels Thanksgiving plans with 89-year-old mother following criticism

Cuomo scrapped his plans to have his mother and two daughters travel to Albany for the holiday after being criticized as a "hypocrite."

...

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has made a last-minute change to his Thanksgiving plans after a backlash of criticism for planning on having his family travel to celebrate with him during the pandemic.

Cuomo reversed course on Monday just hours after he gave a radio interview in which he told WAMCthat he would be celebrating Thanksgiving with his mother, Matilda, 89, and two of his three daughters, Cara and Michaela, who would be traveling to the governor's mansion in Albany.

"The story is my mom is gonna come up and two of my girls is the current plan, but the plans change," he told WAMC. "I have a lot of work to do between now and Thanksgiving."

Cuomo's comments drew criticism from Republican officials in the state, as he has pleaded with people to not travel for Thanksgiving and limit gatherings to the people they live with.

The list of hypocrites so far:

-Lori Lightfoot
-Nancy Pelosi
-Jim Kenney
-Bill de Blasio
-Gavin Newsom
-Muriel Bowser
-Andrew Cuomo
-Michael Hancock

Politicians have always been the biggest "rules for thee but not for me" hypocrites who think the laws they pass don't apply to them, but this is taking it to a whole new level.

” Mayor Michael Hancock jetted off to Mississippi to celebrate the holiday with his wife and daughter, News 9 reported Wednesday. ”

The hypocrisy. Going home to his wife and daughter? Why isn’t he locked up at his office?

You think the Mayor of Denver's home is in Mississippi (1,000 kilometers away)?

I don’t know. Maybe they have two homes and during holidays they live in Missisippi. But perhaps has wife and daughter should have stayed in Denver instead so that none of them would travel around in the country during the pandemic.

I wonder why it is so hard to understand that legislation does not require adherence by legislators.

The best example is probably prohibition.

the funny thing is how a stalinist like jergul still trusts the government. every single eastern european i have ever met hates these lockdowns because they 100% believe it is a scam for the government to assume more power and control over day to day life of citizens. so jergul is either an idiot or a shill for government control over people. which is hilarious because who the fuck would actually want less freedom and more government control? jergul.

"I wonder why it is so hard to understand that legislation does not require adherence by legislators."

Legislation that people listen to does require exactly that.

Supervisor Sheila Kuehl was seen eating outside Nov. 24 at Il Forno Trattoria near her home in Santa Monica, Fox 11 reported. Earlier in the day Kuehl was among the supervisors who voted 3 to 2 in support of prohibiting outdoor dining in Los Angeles County. Indoor dining has been banned for months during the pandemic.

"legislation does not require adherence by legislators."

Can you point to a piece of legislation in which legislators specifically crafted an exception for themselves?

Without it, they have no such special privileges.

I'm going to offer a generous interpretation of jergul's post and assume that he was merely pointing out that politicians being massive hypocrites is nothing new.

That doesn't make it any less worse though.

Chalk up Austin, TX mayor Steve Adler (D):

----------------------------------------------------
In early November, as health officials warned of a impending COVID-19 spike, Austin Mayor Steve Adler hosted an outdoor wedding and reception with 20 guests for his daughter at a trendy hotel near downtown.

The next morning, Adler and seven other wedding attendees boarded a private jet bound for Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where they vacationed for a week at a family timeshare.

One night into the trip, Adler addressed Austin residents in a Facebook video: “We need to stay home if you can. This is not the time to relax. We are going to be looking really closely. ... We may have to close things down if we are not careful.”

In hosting the wedding and traveling internationally, Adler said he broke neither his own order or those established by Gov. Greg Abbott.

But at the time, the city was recommending people not gather in groups of more than 10, and the day after Adler’s departure, Austin’s health authority warned that “it’s important that we drive the (COVID-19) numbers down in advance of Thanksgiving.”

Add mayor of San Francisco London Breed to the list. She went to the same restaurant the governor went to. She was there the day after the governor.

CNN spun it that she got in one last meal dining out right before the restrictions were put in place.

The mayor for San Jose can also be added to the list. He tweeted that people should celebrate Thanksgiving with family from no more than three households then admitted his Thanksgiving gathering with family was from five households.

Is the French Laundry largely unknown outside of the SF Bay Area, out of curiosity?
