What exactly is going to happen is unclear. The creators talk about it as a "pause" and that there are a lot more plans for the IP.

We'll just have to see what that means.

Defiance was actually a sorta fun game for a while until the show got cancelled and they released a new version of it that ended up being the same, but crappier. It's a third person, open world action shooter.

They linked events in the game to what was going on in the show. Not a big deal, but it was cool to see.

Only one niggle, the description of the rocks "yield" feels really out of synch; compared to the relative fidelity they have shown in other aspects of the hard mechanics.

Pretty sure rock 9 was described in hundred megatons range by the text on screen, subsequent ones described in background as hundred kiloton ranges; but the graphics of impact viewed from space (ejecta cones, shockwaves etc) are way beyond that.

So much TOIL I'll never get to use. At least they bought back the surplus vacation days that can't be carried over. Both of which is unprecedented exception they've made for our team.

The rule is we get to take TOIL as unutilised time; but some of the team have built up so much that if we use it this FY, it will utterly kill our bonus targets.

At least I got a few days off for Christmas.

Yea, these are dark days. I guess you like me also suck at taking out all you vaccation every (normal) year? I have over the course of the 4.5 years at this place about 25 saved days, and 2021 yields another 30. We have similarly rules for carrying over. On top of that I have 90 parental leave days for my son left, I transfered as much as I could to my wife. I have promised my wife that for the next baby I will be home for an extended period, 6 months at least together with her.

I have a better appreciation for the chllanges of being the parent at home with a baby. Specially the stress of the first one. I regret that the timing coincided with a significant increase in workload for me last year.

My wife is normally quite good at making sure I take most of it. I was worse in not taking it as a civil servant.

I get 25 standard, buy 5 more, and then end up carrying around 5 over (we are only allowed to carry 8 over).

Done this twice in a row and so this year I'm way over max for carry over.

I've been avoiding this thread, watched the season over the past 3 days... it was amazing. Only the writing away of Alex really did feel very weird. My gf had no idea about the shit going on around the actor and thought she'd fallen asleep without noticing for a moment.

SPOILERS!

We all knew Alex was being metoo:ed, we all expected him to die. I think Alex died with his honor intact. It was an abrupt and sober scene, that was out of place for the series and it broke the 4th wall. So, in a way it had more impact.

What I don't know, is why did they kill Fred now? Fred isn't assassinated when the proto-molecule is stole, he dies from a stroke after a space battle, and it should be in the next season. Did they explain the rational for this?

I couldn't do it. I couldn't even wait for the first book to arrive in the mail, so I read all the plot summaries online for ALL the books. I am the only person I know, who is like this, "spoils" every book and story by reading ahead and jumping around. I am rarely in it for the story anymore, I am in it for the universe the authors created, more than the stories they choose to tell in them. I love the story, it sucks me into the world, but the world/lore keeps me there long after the story is over.

My gateway into fantasy and sci fi, was that I was am a hobby cartographer. I have been drawing maps since I was 6. The day I saw the first map in David Edding's Belgarion, I was blown away. I have never read a fantasy book, that didn't have maps. If it didn't have maps, it indicated a low level of world building to me. And generally this is true, all the epic fantasy stories have well mapped worlds and a crazy level of world building. You do that well and the stories will write themselves.

Some exceptionally well built sci fi universes are Babylon 5, The Foundation series and Dune. I didn't include ST or SW, they are rich worlds, but since the are huge collaborations at this point, it isn't fair to compare them to these small 1-man 2-man, but genius level crafts.

First part was one of the finest TV displays i have ever seen, I almost stroked out myself. The ending felt a bit rushed, like they had to do a lot of setting up the next season. Hard to see how this great tv is going to stop after next season.

I have no idea how ”metoo:ed” is being used these days, but I meant, In the positive sense of where one woman’s testimony triggers an avalanche of ”metoo” towards say Bill Cosby, Weinstein and Cas Anvar. They got metoo:ed, good riddance.

Entertaining show. Just finished season 5. All the other stuff I've tried to watch from Scifi channel sucked (I know Scifi cancelled after season 3). Expanse isn't close to the top tier but it's pretty good.

Man did Drummer hit the wall quickly. Maybe she got into the firewater. Always had the bitchface thing but was looking fine in the early seasons and looks like shit now.

Also, they missed the opportunity of having Murtry drink wine from someone's skull like Karl Tanner did with Jeor fucking Mormont.

Renzo Marquez Member	Wed Feb 17 06:18:43 Entertaining show. Just finished season 5. All the other stuff I've tried to watch from Scifi channel sucked (I know Scifi cancelled after season 3). Expanse isn't close to the top tier but it's pretty good. Man did Drummer hit the wall quickly. Maybe she got into the firewater. Always had the bitchface thing but was looking fine in the early seasons and looks like shit now. Also, they missed the opportunity of having Murtry drink wine from someone's skull like Karl Tanner did with Jeor fucking Mormont.
