WHO is saying it will 2022 before virus is contained via vaccine, so he is right.

You can't go another calendar year with businesses being closed.

WHO is taking a global perspective. Its fucking insane that developed countries cannot vaccinate their populations in a month.

I would still strongly urge everyone to permanently change certain behaviors. The R0 is for a population with certain characteristics. Changing the characteristics changes R0.

Particularly as a change in behavior impacts on a whole host of diseases. It may even resolve drug resistance issues for some strains of infections.

It is as if no one is preparing for disasters anymore. We are so convinced by our awesomeness, we be like virus, comet, war... meh.

It comes naturally for me, every time something bad happens, I start thinking of ways it can get worse :) it is not a mental condition, more of a hobby.

You are probably too young to remember cold war civic readiness. I miss it.

Anyone getting a Swedish ID number also got dog tags (my wife has a set) mailed to them.

For corpse identification in national emergencies.

Funny enough, I have one of those tags somewhere or my mom has all of them. I got to see the readiness slowly dismantle, but yea most of it was already gone.

Nimi, Ive often that was more a US trait with Euros seeming better at preperation.

FEMA seems to encapsulate that at least for Americans. We seem to have no problem spending gobs of money after the fact, but when you bring up cheaper* preparation we cant afford it.

In my state they regularly give us budget surpluses back in tax rebates. Drives me nuts to think someone thoight it was a good idea to give everyone $40 instead of keeping $40 from everyone and expand drainage infrastructure ( much needed) or help homeowners to manage trees dangerously near buildings considering we have a " hurricane season".

You would think all the disaster movies would have taught us something?!
