Trump statement on acquittal:

"I want to first thank my team of dedicated lawyers and others for their tireless work upholding justice and defending truth.

My deepest thanks as well to all of the United States Senators and Members of Congress who stood proudly for the Constitution we all revere and for the sacred legal principles at the heart of our country.

Our cherished Constitutional Republic was founded on the impartial rule of law, the indispensable safeguard for our liberties, our rights and our freedoms.

It is a sad commentary on our times that one political party in America is given a free pass to denigrate the rule of law, defame law enforcement, cheer mobs, excuse rioters, and transform justice into a tool of political vengeance, and persecute, blacklist, cancel and suppress all people and viewpoints with whom or which they disagree. I always have, and always will, be a champion for the unwavering rule of law, the heroes of law enforcement, and the right of Americans to peacefully and honorably debate the issues of the day without malice and without hate.

This has been yet another phase of the greatest witch hunt in the history of our Country. No president has ever gone through anything like it, and it continues because our opponents cannot forget the almost 75 million people, the highest number ever for a sitting president, who voted for us just a few short months ago.

I also want to convey my gratitude to the millions of decent, hardworking, law-abiding, God-and-Country loving citizens who have bravely supported these important principles in these very difficult and challenging times.

Our historic, patriotic and beautiful movement to Make America Great Again has only just begun. In the months ahead I have much to share with you, and I look forward to continuing our incredible journey together to achieve American greatness for all of our people. There has never been anything like it!

We have so much work ahead of us, and soon we will emerge with a vision for a bright, radiant, and limitless American future.
Together there is nothing we cannot accomplish.

We remain one People, one family, and one glorious nation under God, and it’s our responsibility to preserve this magnificent inheritance for our children and for generations of Americans to come.

May God bless all of you, and may God forever bless the United States of America."

Just like 2016, he "wins" with a minority vote.

Waaaah ex post facto convictions require more than simple majority support

Y2A I know that you originate from a country where the rule of law is routinely abused to crack down on political opponents, but that is not how things work in the United States.

You want to have sudamerica-style governance, go back to sudeamerica.

I accept the rules of the impeachment and that he was acquitted. Unlike the clown and his cult Qanon/Proud Boy/Oathkeeper followers we accept the rules of a democracy. I am just pointing out the numbers. so relax.

Last time I checked, Biden is President of the United States.

If 75 million Americans really didn't accept the rules of our democracy, that would not be the case.

So an EC certification vote was delayed by a few hours, boo hoo. The Republic was never in any serious threat.

lol, so dumb. They basically got a royal flush in that there were not congressmen and senators killed.

there was a disturbingly high number of R's in local/state/federal gov'ts who were willing to chuck the votes & just appoint Trump electors

Mitch basically said he would've convicted if Trump was still in office

Also, just a clue from a South American on how coups actually work:

An angry fringe of fascist brownshirt lunatics take a government stronghold and then wait and hope that the military (or a significant part of the military) will join the coup. These brownshirts failed to hold the capitol, we have no idea what would have happened had they been successful in holding the capitol building indefinitely.

"There's no question — none — that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day. No question about it."
~ Mitch McC

(who only hung his not guilty vote entirely on a bullshit unconstitutionality argument rather than a smidgen of innocence by Trump)

Mitch has always been one to lick his finger and hold it up to see which way the wind blows. Many Republicans (in Washington) are as anxious to keep Trump out in 2024 as Democrats. They want their power back too.

Mitch is not trying to curry favor w/ Dems, he's trying to save his party

the large # of R's who HATE Trump have good reason, they are not the crazy ones

there are no respectable R names who go to bat for Trump

From the trial, a compilation of democrats trying to deny Trump.his win 4 years ago

http://youtu.be/y3ZtrFaa8Tw

Something only cultist crazy politicians would do.I think I see maxine Walters ( advocate for harassing Trumpers) Sheila Jackson ( AR 15s are 50 caliber machines of war) and that weird guy who cried over people trespassing with the dark curly hair....

Note, this is not comparing to the Riot. The riot was a different issue. However how many lefties denounced Cruz and others for questioning the certification of the vote on much greater supported discrepancies.

So the Republicans chose to stand up for Trump and the mob who wanted hang Pence. I interpret it as the Republicans sees a future in Trump but not in Pence. So, does this mean the end of Mike Pence’s career? It’s over for Pence? Is he going to leave the Party?

Paramount, Im not sure how many people really dislike Pence.Even at that rally.

There definitley is a future with Trump in some form.He is still the most popular person in Republican circles by a long shot

Its funny, its usually been Democrats who have a cult of personality in leaders."Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line"

Of Obama were to get back into politics he would have more support than Biden does, its been long enough the hatred of him has died down and amongst democrats, especially black females he is a demi god.

The Republican party is dooming itself staying chained as cultists to this awful leader.

- Completely driving away the youngest two American generations from considering being a part of such a backward thinking/policy party.

- Fracturing the Republican party between those who feel good leadership should look more like Regean/Bush and less like ISIS trying to overthrow the nation.

- Driving away independent/moderate voters who typically lean Republican for fiscal policy reasoning.

By failing to convict Trump it's looking pretty bad for the long term viability of the party.

Trump is ready and mad at some folks, and he’s excited!

Are Trump and Graham going to hang Mike Pence so they can rebuild the party? Who else are going to be purged?

CNN)Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said Sunday that he spoke to former President Donald Trump after his acquittal in his second impeachment trial and that Trump is "excited" about the midterms in 2022.

"I spoke to him last night; he was grateful to his lawyers. He appreciated the help that all of us provided. You know, he's ready to move on and rebuild the Republican Party," Graham told Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday."

"He's excited about 2022. And I'm going to go down to talk with him next week, play a little golf in Florida. And I said, 'Mr. President this MAGA movement needs to continue, we need to unite the party.' "

Graham said Sunday that Trump is "mad at some folks." The South Carolina Republican added that he wants to take back the Senate in 2022 and the party needs Trump to achieve that goal.

Trump and Graham will need to do something about McConnell too.
