Utopia Talk / Politics / update on that Fraud guy

if anyone read my posts in that long running thread series, they'll recall i kept noting the prechecked boxes for recurring monthly donations (or even weekly near the end) & double donations on Trump's conman fundraising pages:

well, an update:

"
NEWS: The Trump operation refunded $122 million — more than 10% — of what it raised online in 2020.

Prechecked boxes withdrew $$$ weekly from unwitting supporters. Scores were ensnared. Fraud claims to banks soared.

some cultist anecdotes from the article:

--------------------

Stacy Blatt was in hospice care last September listening to Rush Limbaugh’s dire warnings about how badly Donald J. Trump’s campaign needed money when he went online and chipped in everything he could: $500.

It was a big sum for a 63-year-old battling cancer and living in Kansas City on less than $1,000 per month. But that single contribution — federal records show it was his first ever — quickly multiplied. Another $500 was withdrawn the next day, then $500 the next week and every week through mid-October, without his knowledge — until Mr. Blatt’s bank account had been depleted and frozen. When his utility and rent payments bounced, he called his brother, Russell, for help.

What the Blatts soon discovered was $3,000 in withdrawals by the Trump campaign in less than 30 days. They called their bank and said they thought they were victims of fraud.

“It felt,” Russell said, “like it was a scam.”

-------------

“Bandits!” said Victor Amelino, a 78-year-old Californian, who made a $990 online donation to Mr. Trump in early September via WinRed. It recurred seven more times — adding up to almost $8,000. “I’m retired. I can’t afford to pay all that damn money."

--------------

$122 million refunded, but just imagine all the suckers who haven't complained (or don't know they can complain) & just took the hit

this should be criminal fraud (especially the -weekly- recurring ones where you it could happen repeatedly before you even get a statement)

his '100 club' also total fraud (pretending to be just 100 exclusive members)
and pretty much every other method they used in their fundraising... was always sleazy

"I'm running as a moderate"

-Joe Biden

Far more sleazy than anything Trump ever said or did, and I wonder how much his campaign fleeced from donors who believed that...but since he lies the "normal" way in politics, he gets a pass.

The elderly are naive , I feel glad that my parents questioned a $38 electric wheelchair.

A few weeks ago I had to get their $110 back for a mini excavator.

there's nothing weird about living in a bush outside Mar-a-lago

Kayleigh is now a Fox News co-host, Lara Trump a paid contributor, he & his sons regularly on as guests... he's not gone

anyway, here's some instructions from your lord & master

TLDR: "boycott: major league baseball, Coca-cola, Delta airlines, JP Morgan Chase, Viacom CBS, Citigroup, Cisco, UPS & Merck... election stolen, i won... Happy Easter"

(he so hates cancel culture!... & 'fighting fire w/ fire' doesn't work as excuse as he's called for plenty of boycotts over petty nonsense for years)

The Clinton’s made 150 million in speaking fees after leaving office. Trump is posting stupid shit about boycotting businesses that have really nothing to do with anything. Pretty fucking stupid way to signal to big businesses to stay the fuck away. He wasn’t known for burning bridges indiscriminately before becoming president but I guess the power trip never went away.

What a fucking dumbass.

The SCotus just nixed a case against Trump that argued by blocking twitter followers he was blocking their 1st amendment rights.

It was a nonsense charge, they were not banned from tweeting just not allowed to post on his feed. Unanimous decision.

not confirmed as nonsense

“The high court dismissed the case because Trump is not in office so there is no longer a live case or controversy.”

so had nothing to do with the merits

Conservatives are not very good at getting the facts right. If something confirms their preexisting biases, they just run with it.

Just another sign our courts are fucking retarded.

Ohhhhhhhhhh it's moooooooooot

As if every public official doesn't have a Twitter
As if their blocking of private citizens commenting negatively wouldn't fall under the same precedent

If it's a slam dunk case, establish precedent with the power you seized for yourselves.

But no, we'll wait for someone else with standing and an enormous pile of money to burn.

Yes. Republicans first priority is protecting the super-rich. Even the upper middle class are sacrificial lambs to them as the Trump tax bill showed.

...where a Diet Coke hiding behind the phone (as determined by internet people... i can't confirm other than it being entirely consistent with what to expect from him)

http://www.../politics/trump-donations.html

Several bank representatives who fielded fraud claims directly from consumers estimated that WinRed cases, at their peak, represented as much as 1 to 3 percent of their workload. An executive for one of the nation’s larger credit-card issuers confirmed that WinRed at its height accounted for a similar percentage of its formal disputes.

That figure may seem small at first glance, but financial experts said it was a shockingly large percentage, considering that political donations represent a tiny fraction of the overall United States economy.

Can you imagine being so obsessed with Trump that you analyze every pixel of photographs he takes?

Meanwhile, Biden is releasing a $4 trillion "infrastructure" plan (that largely has nothing to do with infrastructure) and spreading the Big Lie about Georgia's election results. But never mind that, i think I spot one-tenth of a soda bottle behind Trump's phone! Zomg guys!

An infrastructure plan most people support including a large portion of Republicans.

Meanwhile China invests hugely in infrastructure across Asia and the world to cement their power while Republicans actively sabotage the US doing the same even within their own country.

Get fucked you stupid reactionary shit.

Ive wanted an Infrastructure bill for years now.

But from what Ive heard it's not a lot of infrastucture.

For example.5% of that 2 trill goes.to.roads and bridges.

Does.anyone have a link for a breakdown of the bill?

It's $4 trillion split into two bills. And yes, you are correct that the overall bill has little to do with infrastructure.

WaPo (of all places) has a pretty decent breakdown of the spending items. Even in the actual "infrastructure" sections, you have a lot of non-infra shit like "addressing racial inequities" and electric vehicles.

http://www...n-infrastructure-climate-plan/

Also, it would enable the government to override state right-to-work laws, make it easier for workers to strike, and gives a whole bunch of other freebies to his union backers.

And this is the bill he wants to get bipartisan support for! I can only imagine was the 2nd $2 trillion bill will include.

the GQP has kicked the fundraising fraud into overdrive... i guess they saw how Trump's campaign suffered zero legal problems, just had to return some money when the duped complained

NRCC (National Republican Congressional Committee) donation page:
http://sec...ake-the-house/?exitintent=true

this is written in bold text "[x] We need to know we haven't lost you to the Radical Left. If you UNCHECK this box, we will have to tell Trump you're a DEFECTOR & sided with the Dems. CHECK this box and we can win back the House and get Trump to run in 2024."... in smaller non-bold text noting the box makes it a recurring donation

holy fraud, batman

then a similar box for the double donation (less offensive text, but just having a pre-checked double donation is offensive as hell)... people are -obviously- selecting the amount they wanted to donate, not half of what they wanted to donate

i would have assumed some rogue faked the page to make R's look bad, if Trump's campaign didn't do this shit all campaign long (including texts of Trump being personally disappointed when they didn't donate)

"The Clinton’s made 150 million in speaking fees after leaving office."

Well of course. Those idiots paying those fees thought Hillary would some day become president and figured until then she would do what she could in the Senate to help them.
Speaking of the Clintons ask Haiti how all that money the Clinton Foundation raised for rebuilding Haiti made a difference.
