We've accomplished both of those things. Everything else is pure mission creep. I'd be perfectly happy to see a democratic Afghanistan that respects the rights of women, but it's not our job to try and achieve that through military means. We're way overdue for leaving Afghanistan at this point. What happens to it after we leave isn't our concern.

Military intervention is so in vogue with them that they consider Obama's refusal to go into Syria as one of his "failures" in office. Forever wars and the intelligence community (which openly worked to overthrow Trump) are beloved. With the neocons moving left on social issues and the Democrats moving right on national security, they have come to meet right in the middle. The two are nearly indistinguishable now.

The original purpose of breaking the Al Qaeda terror organization was accomplished. secondary objective of killing Bin Laden was accomplished. Tertiary objective of preventing new Afghan terrorist organized attacks on the US homeland accomplished. The scope creep of deciding we needed to nation build will almost certainly be a failure. So all in all far more successful than short term memory fools that can only comprehend time within the previous few months. The failure hasn't been going there at all, but in staying too long.
