Being a fan of Musk has always been a good indicator of low level retardation.

Yeah, because musk is just a repeat failure....

Does the boring company actually build the Hyperloop? I thought they just dig the tunnels and Virgin is building the hyperloop....could be wrong though.

Hyperloop and the Tesla's in tunnels stuff is daft.

Tesla and Space X are a different story.

Gotta remember though, Musk is increasingly just the money, not the brains. He brings or brought some fantastic organisational, leadership and orchestration skills. But he's not Tony Stark.

He's also clearly enjoying his rock star image way too much.

Musk isn't really responsible for any of his successes. His lack of influence in Tesla is well documented, e.g. he bought the founder title. There are similar stories in all of his endeavors dating back to the Paypal days. He was never the tech guy, and has always talked out his ass, interacting with the broader neckbeard public more than any other person of comparable wealth.

Add in the requisite billionaire worship amongst the "I'm so smart and I'm going to be rich" crowd, and you get the cult.

Because nobody thinks hyperloop is a good idea and the only one that cares about it is you?

Nobody cares about this and we have actually already talked about this and guess what, nobody cared! Jergul saw an upside as this tunneling know how could be useful on Mars, but this idea has zero practical application on Earth. We already know the most efficient way to transport people in tunnels, it's called subways. It wasn't exactly genius to cut the cost for tunneling, in proportion to the reduced size of the tunnel!

"We already know the most efficient way to transport people in tunnels,"

Public transit is now obsolete in light of the pandemic.

"We already know the most efficient way to transport people in tunnels,"

Low-cost in exchange for low-capacity may be a worthy tradeoff for places that can't afford more expensive projects.

Not every locality has $20 billion to throw at a Big Dig.

"Public transit is now obsolete in light of the pandemic."

Let's not get carried away ok? Even if this was true, it is easier and cheaper to retrofit the infrastructure to give people safe social distance than to dig small tunnels that can fit 1 car.

Have you been on a subway recently? People are packed in like sardines during rush hours.

Retrofitting wouldn't be enough- you'd need to massively expand rolling stock to significantly reduce capacity on each train. That is hugely expensive.

If public transit has to effectively shut down once every 10-15 years as global pandemics become more common, I would seriously question both its safety and its financial feasibility.

I think there are a lot of assumptions in what you say, I still believe in the concept and there are ways to make it better. Personally I am done with public transit, though I have used it for many years. Seriously I do not want to mix with the pleb. And by that I mean _anyone_ can get on public transit. Crazy people, drunks, hoodlums and just generally obnoxious of simply oblivious and loud assholes of any age.

Personally I get what you are saying, but objectively it has a role.
