"“The 21st-century Jim Crow assault is real,” President Biden claimed Tuesday. “We’re facing the most significant test of our democracy since the Civil War—that’s not hyperbole,” he said in the same speech. “The Confederates back then never breached the Capitol, as insurrectionists did on January the 6th.”"

http://www...26215733?mod=opinion_lead_pos1

1. The "21st century Jim Crow" is a Texas proposal to roll back voting regulations to the ancient days of...2019.

2. Comparing anything so mundane to the Jim Crow segregation of the 19th-20th century South is *shockingly* offensive and shows that Biden has no idea what Jim Crow actually was.

3. Terming the January 6 rioters as "insurrectionists" is beyond ridiculous.

4. Apparently January 6 was as big a threat to the United States as the *Civil War* itself. Holy shit.

5. What the FUCK is wrong with this senile idiot?

Bidens ability to fit so much stupidity in just a few sentences is honestly impressive. Hardly the first time he's done it either.

Biden (or rather, the handlers who feed the senile idiot his speaking lines) are completely goddammit insane.

This fucking retard insists that the 2nd Amendment is obsolete because you'd need "F-15s and maybe some nuclear weapons" to take on the US government.

Yet at the same time, he'd have us believe that the very Republic itself was just seconds away from being overthrown by a bunch of unarmed rednecks and dudes wearing Viking helmets.

Do people on the left recognize even a little how fucking dumb this guy is?

Too many logical jumps there and no real citation. Texas voting laws are draconian as fuck too. Felony charges for accidentally voting. The guy they charged was a felon that already did his time and is now facing huge charges for mistiming by a few months.

Most definitely these laws are Jim Crow.

“Apparently January 6 was as big a threat to the United States as the *Civil War* itself. Holy shit“

he said “since the Civil War” thus it means only compared to all things after

and it was more than “unarmed rednecks and dudes wearing Viking helmets”, a disturbing number of R politicians were willing to reject States’ certifications and trash enormous numbers of votes to change the winner... and they are taking measures to make it easier to do so next time (transferring powers away from those who didn’t fall in line with the lord of bullshit)

When you've got someone on the ropes yelling "I'm not racist, I'm not racist!" then you've already won the bout in the eye of public opinion.

Conservatives listing out all the reasons why THIS thing is SO DIFFERENT from Jim Crow are falling, hook, line, and sinker, into the "I have a black friend" trope.

"

A politicians hyperbole, not really surprised a politician exxagerate.

"a disturbing number of R politicians were willing to reject States’ certifications and trash enormous numbers of votes to change the winner.."

This is nothing new, democrats did that with George W. Bush and Trump, it seems to be a common practice.

Earthpig, Mostly agreed. Its political hyperbole, literally evry politician does it ( mabey not Al gore and Bob dole?)

But he may have succeeded in keeping thenfocus on. Jan. 6th.

Same with that commission, the Democrats stand to lose a lot in 2022, they are pinning a lot of their hopes on keeping the focus on Jan. 6th, Reps on the defensive and keep away from the current admins failures and paint the Republicams as.a bunch of.violent crazies.

It also takes away 6 months of daily riots from BLM that Democrats defended.

Its reminds me of that simpsoms episode where Marge has a gambling problem. She admits it in the end and Homer goes on to list his 100s of misgivings tontheneffect of "But thats ok, because YOU'VE got a gambling problem"

what Trump did before, after and continuing is not remotely similar to Al Gore or Hillary (including by those around them) but I know I won’t sway your opinion

and I don’t think the “test of democracy” part is hyperbole, someone can cite and argue a different moment since the civil war if they want

No, they were less litigious.Gore was the.only one of the three to take it well

But Congress people not certifying shit is common.

that doesn't seem as significant

the bulk of the R party was willing to chuck the election results... & if the electoral college results weren't accepted it goes to 1 vote per state & a Trump win

(& of course also no trust in elections going forward... if, disastrously, Trump runs again & loses Georgia again & says it was rigged again (as he definitely would), his cult will believe it... having their new laws won't mean a thing... except maybe they'll have a cultist Governor & Secretary of State then who'll cooperate)

Yeah, well, thinking Trump is a greater threat tonour democracy than the Cuban Missile crises, nuclear proliferation, 2 world wars, the rise of China, Cold war/USSR, FDR/great depression etc.

Is crazy...but whatever.

Thinking the Republicans did something that isnt common place by not certifying election results is wrong.

Trump increased nuclear proliferation, wanted to take our cuban relations back to the time of the cuban missile crisis, was only all talk on China, and let more Americans die to the pandemic than the total number that died in all the wars you mentioned.

So yeah, that piece of shit had to go.

Is it?

It just seems more like political hyperbole. Which is expected, it would be odd to NOT have a politician speak in such a manner.

"no real citation"

LOL @ Cuckhat again choosing the faggiest line of discourse, demanding a citation on general knowledge that anyone with high school-level American history pedigree + absolutely average current events upkeep can keep up with

first off, he said -test of- our democracy, not -threat to- our democracy

but w/ Trump on his revenge tour trying to oust all "RINOs" (which now just means any R who wasn't willing to toss election results) & to replace them w/ cultists, i'd say 'threat' also works

"first off, he said -test of- our democracy, not -threat to- our democracy"

In your opinion, what exactly is the difference?
tumbleweed
the wanderer
Thu Jul 15 11:59:08
most of your examples such as nuclear proliferation don't seem like a 'test of' our democracy

but i'm willing to say 'threat' personally anyway, a disturbing number of people would be fine w/ Trump just being installed as leader (& dictator, for that matter... & as the lord god, for that matter... although in decreasing numbers for each of those)
tumbleweed

Thu Jul 15 12:02:07
and the threat not just about him personally, Jim Jordan / Matt Gaetz / Marjorie Taylor Greene's may become the base template of R politicians

actually, as the other side says Democrats are 'radical left, communist, marxist, socialists who stole an election' they should also agree w/ Biden

"a disturbing number of people would be fine w/ Trump just being installed as leader (& dictator, for that matter... & as the lord god, for that matter... although in decreasing numbers for each of those"

Wouldn't FDR been a greater threat by those standards?

Again, I stand by my opinion that this was run of the mill political hyperbole, the other guy is the devil...etc.

Marjorie taylor greene isnt very popular, even within the GOP.

She is far more popular with the MSNBC crowd.

there is nothing standard about what Trump did/doing (still hasn't conceded by the way... when some reported that he admitted defeat he made a point to say no, he didn't)

we'll see in 2022 what types of garbage run & succeed, i guess (Trump, & thus his cult, will definitely back garbage, loyalty to him is his -only- concern as always... at best, the garbage will only be just faking their love of him to get his support)

I meant Biden's speech being normal political hyperbole.

Thu Jul 15 13:08:02
& i don't think it's hyperbole... Trump is actively harming the country daily (as he did throughout his term), only less so now as out of office & booted from social media... but CPAC & Fox & others still stupidly putting him out there (& not pointing out his total bullshit to the viewers)

LOL @ Forwyn

Only way he can maintain his ignorance is by blaming all real sources of scientific and legal and demonstrably true information as for "cucks" thus preempting from working in any real field of STEM or Law or anything really.

So many cuckservatives are as stupid as him. The only "truth" they believe in is inside their small little echo chamber.

TW, I'll agree to disagree, but either way it really doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

Does anyone have a good source on what exactly are the TX Dems are leaving for?

Like I get its voting regulations, but what are the actual regulations , that arw in dispute?

The stupid thing about the Texas idiots going to DC is the thing they are objecting to didn't make it past first draft of the bill.

If the bill does not become law then voting law goes back to the 2019 law. Because of COVID Texas passed a special circumstances bill for voters that expires. That temporary law allowed polling places to be set up in temporary structures. It allowed for longer voting hours.

Compared to the 2019 law the proposed law would extend days for early voting. The Houston area kept polls open around the clock. The new law would not allow 24 hour voting but again does extend the number of days people can vote early. The end result is more hours when polls are open. THe law also states employers must let you leave work to go vote.

The new law would also require that polling places be permanent structures.

The new law does not require voters to send in copies of an ID for mail in voting. What the new law would require is for voters to either write down their drivers license number on the form in the area provided or the last four digits of their social security number.

VP Harris thinks minorities and rural area people are too stupid to be able to write down four digits of a number.

The new law is much more voter friendly than the law that will be put in place if there is no vote.

Democrats have fled Texas in the past so they wouldn't have to vote on things. When I was living in Dallas they went to a casino in Oklahoma and partied instead of voting.
