For the first time in decades a POTUS was honest about war. It wasn't worth it.

Afgani President is beyond useless

Afgani government utterly corrupt

Afgani army only exists on paper.

Suddenly cablenews gives a fuck about Afghanistan. Pentagon is playing mind games and Republicans are going full meltdown demending impeachment.

Biden hold his ground and does the right thing.

Actually what he did was allow himself to be pressured into taking blame for having done nothing wrong. What he should have done was ignore their caterwauling.

This is the second time he's allowed the GOP to pressure him. The first time was with the ridiculous sanctions on Cuba.

I'm not sure where you've been these last few years. That speech was completely Trumpian in tone at some parts.

"Fuck the Afghans, we got what we wanted and it's not my fault those lazy pieces of shit couldn't be bothered to defend their own country" is a sentiment that admittedly appeals to my MAGA sensibilitied, but I wasnt expecting that from Biden.

Biggest issue is that he didn't blame Trump. Trump's peace deal was pure shit and we kept withdrawing as the Taliban violated the terms and didn't leave any logistics in place for the Afghan military. Not like keeping a few thousand troops and air support matters to our budget at all. It's basically live-fire training for them. The only thing that matters are American lives and casualties have been basically zero for years.

Biden was an idiot to continue trump's policy. Just proves not a single fucking Trump policy was any good.

"Biden was an idiot to continue trump's policy. Just proves not a single fucking Trump policy was any good."

Actually the collapse of the Afghan forces proves that Biden was right. We dodged a bullet. A small number of US troops could have been overrun if the Taliban mounted a full offensive and the Afghans cut and run. It could have been a disaster.

Except he has blamed former President Trump and continues to do so.

"Biden released a statement on Saturday aiming blame at former President Donald Trump’s deal with the Taliban in 2020, which promised reduced forces and a prisoner swap.
Biden said the deal “left the Taliban in the strongest position militarily since 2001” and left him with few choices: “Follow through on the deal, with a brief extension to get our forces and our allies’ forces out safely, or ramp up our presence and send more American troops to fight once again in another country’s civil conflict.”"

There was no good way to get out of Afghanistan and there was never going to be. We could have been a bit more graceful about it though and fulfilled the promises we made to translators and others before we completely abandoned the place.

"Except he has blamed former President Trump and continues to do so."

Yep. He's blaming trump now, but he wasn't crediting Trump when he announced that we were leaving. Funny how that goes.

I didn't know that senility-driven authoritarianism was the same as "having balls," but sure whatever.

See you in court bro.

How is withdrawing from Afghanistan "senility-driven authoritarianism" and why are you taking him to court over it?

Oh I thought you were referring to his sht vaccine mandate.

Though I'm also not aware of any Afghanistan news that's worth celebrating either.

It started with fucking up the border, then Delta and now Afghanistan....very unpopular at the moment.

Border - Yup, Biden fuck up

Delta - Antivax/antimask Republicans will take most the brunt of any political fallout, and rightfully so.

Afghanistan - Yup, Biden fuck up. But not in the strategy, but in the tactics of it. Long term political fallout unclear, since it accomplished in the end what most everyone wanted. But was a far uglier process that could have been handled far better.

How? We weren't surging again and had withdrawn most troops.

The vulnerable left knew they were taking a risk.

Trump and Stephen Miller would've left all our allies to rot and cried, "Muh Immigrnats."

Instead, we airlifted over 100,000 Afghanis to safety. Trump wouldn't have taken those risks with American lives and let all our allies die like he did in Syria.

I prefer the version of America that is like Reagan's City on a Hill and the vast majority of military personnel were also happy to help and risk their lives in this manner.

Once again, comparing Afghanistan to Syria is retarded.
