Will the Taliban be able to function any better than the former Wiemar republik the west has propped propped up there?

Will sandy camel shit become worth their weight in gold and they become rich?

Will they reak havoc on their surrounding nations?

Will it become a feeding frenzy of world powers vying for influence and control?

Tune in next post to find out...

Afghanistan will revert to the even worse shithole it was before we got there. Religion is a poison. Extreme religion is just a higher dose.

It has mostly been under Pakistani influence, but Iran may decide to increase their role ... maybe bringing it into conflict with Pakistan.

Another amoral cesspool that China will manipulate and support in order to get raw resources for their economy.

American weakness is an opportunity for the Chinese.

You know the best way of beating China is trade agreements and alliances right? Not fucking trade wars while conceding vasts swath of the earth to china because they also have an ultranationalist leader.

Republicans only care about tax cuts for the rich. They distract you with all these culture wars stuff that doesnt matter at all.

Other than the vast poppy fields, what raw material, either ore or organic does Afghanistan have that the world needs?
Russia spent 10 years there we pissed away 20 years there. If they had anything of value to offer that we couldn't get elsewhere, do you think we would have walked away?

Afghanistan has rare earth minerals. Going to need a shit ton of rare earth metals to electrify our economy.

I am as very pessimistic, I see those rare earth minerals becomming a curse for Afghanistan and then turn into another extraction economy, rife with violence and corruption.

"... and then turn into another extraction economy, rife with violence and corruption."

So exactly the same as it's been ... but with a functioning economy?

I think in many ways the easy extraction of money can make it worse. It really kills the drive to innovate to have gold in the ground.

The Taliban will sell the natural resources based on geopolitical/economic interests.

The other sectors of the economy will have even more corruption than Afghanistan already had. If it helps you feel better, the Afghani economy was and is practically non-existent.

Usually, places like this improve when they allow foreigners to come in with their capital and governance within their companies in exchange for paying a higher than usual wage to the locals and taxes to the government. This is generally a long process, and the Taliban is not likely to be too interested, preferring to base their economy on poppy and goats.
