Utopia Talk / Politics / Liberal democracy and gun rights

In order for liberal values to survive in any country, the populace must be well-armed with modern weapons to deter the government from descending into tyranny.

This is what happens to liberal values in countries where the people have willingly surrendered their guns:

"People in South Australia will be forced to download an app that combines facial recognition and geolocation. The state will text them at random times, and thereafter they will have 15 minutes to take a picture of their face in the location where they are supposed to be. Should they fail, the local police department will be sent to follow up in person. “We don’t tell them how often or when, on a random basis they have to reply within 15 minutes,” Premier Steven Marshall explained. “I think every South Australian should feel pretty proud that we are the national pilot for the home-based quarantine app.”"

Do you value your rights and liberties? Then buy an AR-15 to protect them.

"People in South Australia will be forced to download an app..."

what a remarkably shitty article... does it ever mention it's just people who recently traveled in from out of state?

The start of that paragraph:

"Intrastate travel within Australia is also severely restricted. And the government of South Australia, one of the country’s six states, developed and is now testing an app as Orwellian as any in the free world to enforce its quarantine rules."

so are we taking up arms in objection to temporary quarantines of travelers? or of not using police coming to your door to enforce?

People want immigrants interned for being immigrants ... but are distressed when the government paroles citizens carrying a deadly pathogen into self-confinement.

"citizens carrying a deadly pathogen"

"They will have to prove they have a place to isolate during their quarantine period and must also be fully vaccinated."

Aussie police are pretty nice. Policemen randomly killing people is pretty much an entirely American problem.

” People in South Australia will be forced to download an app that combines facial recognition and geolocation. ”

What if you don’t have a phone or internet? If it’s going to be a prerequisite/obligatory to download an app then the government has to provide all citizens with a free smartphone and free internet to everyone.

” they will have 15 minutes to take a picture of their face in the location where they are supposed to be. Should they fail, the local police department will be sent to follow up in person.”

Lol. Sieg heil?

Oh okay. So it’s not obligatory for everyone, but it’s only a quarantine rule for people who has traveled?

In use for a long time in the USA

The big difference with House Arrest is it enables two-way communication. Offenders receive computer-generated check-in alert at random intervals 8-10 times a day. The app recognizes the offender by his fingerprint and through facial recognition technology. Offenders then record a video response. If warranted, the probation officer or the monitoring center then can do a FaceTime video call.

Those video communications help authorities watch behavior for signs of trouble. “With the phone, you know where they are, and you’re able to call them, you’re able to talk to them, you’re able to get feedback from them, and especially it appears the juveniles are benefiting from that the most,” Keyton said.

yes, for people traveling in from out of state for a 14-day quarantine period that already existed

tons of people posting the quote Rugian did w/o the context to imply it's everyone (probably how he saw it)

------

from a different article:

"
Why is SA doing this?

The Premier said it was "implausible" to continue to use medi-hotels for international arrivals as borders began to re-open.

The government hopes the use of technology during home-based quarantine would not only increase quarantine capacity, but also reduce the reliance on police officers having to knock on doors to check on people quarantining.

"We are trying to take some of the cost associated with home-based quarantine out," Mr Marshall said.

"In the past where we have had this option for people coming from interstate and in the early days from overseas, it required a very heavy police presence to go and check on them."

Policemen almost never "randomly" kill. And when they do, it is almost always a diversity hire.
