One eye catching detail is that the capitol hill incident being 1 single incident, resulted in more arrests and more assaults in absolute numbers and had far more weapons per "capita". It's quite staggering actually, but that incident was more intense in some specific ways.

Does it even make sense to compare 1 incident that took place over 1 day, to months of rioting? These things were disgraceful and dangerous for different reasons.

Sorry arrests were not higher in absolute numbers, just assaults.

"Federal charges" refers only to charges brought forward by the federal government. It doesn't include assault and weapons charges brought by local or state authorities.

Since the BLM riots took place all over the country, while the January 6 riot occurred exclusively in the federal district, the role of the federal government would naturally be proportipnately greater in the latter than the former.

The best apples to apples comparison is total charges, 570 for 1/6 vs 16,241 for BLM.

"Does it even make sense to compare 1 incident that took place over 1 day, to months of rioting?"

I'd say yes, given that the months of riots were all interconnected to each other - they all had the same common contributory causes, were supported by the same segments of society, and were united in terms of ideological outlook and goals.

Its appropriate to treat the riots as more as a single event, even if they took place over many months and locations, than as a series of unrelated incidents which they were most certainly were not.

BLM Riots: 8700 events, ~500 violent incidents, vast majority unarmed

Capitol Insurrection: 1 event, many violent incidents, everyone armed so everyone was on edge.

I fistbumped a lot of people at BLM rallies. None of that shit was happening at the capitol insurrection.

And RCP shows itself for what it is: a blatantly right-wing rag. They've been showing the most vile right-wing pieces full of lies for a decade now.

” ~500 violent incidents”

I bet most of them were done by the right-winged extremists and Trump boys.

certainly was more violent toward people (& most consider people more important than property)

also Trump being entirely responsible for Jan 6 extremely relevant, whereas the BLM related rioting had nothing to do with any politician or even political views really (or at least <1% if going to cite some politician seeming to support)

12-17 dead from BLM protests (depending on count). 5 dead from capital attack. I'm not on either "side" here... I think both were idiotic. Stop lying, tho.

Not to split hairs but I think it was 19-25 dead with BLM.

5 dead is ridiculous, the anyurism guy was medically cleared, he rest were suicides.

"Stop lying, tho"

as you compare a combined 8,700 incidents to 1...
i said 'event'

the cultists targets were people & willing to bludgeon other people to get to them

tumbleweed treating 8,700 incidents of the *same* ideological movement is the height of intellectual dishonesty.

It's like claiming that the assassination attempts on Lincoln, Johnson, and Seward were three separate events, rather than one single one.

The causes, events, and ideas that prompted a bunch of people to riot in Minneapolis on June xx are the exact same that prompted a bunch of people to riot in Portland on July yy. Treating the events as if they were completely unrelated to each other is wrong, and shows a weak mind at work (one that is clearly just repeating the talking points he has heard on CNN).
