Not confirmed. He pointed to a few red herrings that to him, suggested it most likely meant he got shot, saying it would have either been Meadow walking in or Tony getting shot.

However others argue there signs that he meant to live.

For starters they ended by playing Journeys "Don't stop believing"

Also no one ever says much about Pauline looking like he wants to retire or that they jadnt seemed to recruit anyone and the outfit was both small and old.

Plus by then Phil was gone, the only who might have done it was the really old guy, close to Phil Leotardo, but doubtful.

Not sure how this is still going on. He obviously got whacked at the same moment Meadow walked in.

Alan Taylor doesn't confirm but it has been confirmed elsewhere they he got killed by the five families. Tony's family was pretty much crippled and taking him out would end them. Giving new york complete access to all the union contracts Tony had.

Also, this was a pretty good movie. It's sad and funny that dickies reputation for being a junkie started with Livia gossiping. The great dickie moltisanti was actually a pretty good guy by mob standards.

Also don't forget that he's the shinebox guy from Goodfellas.

The unfunny idiots who comment on every Sopranos video on YT will be sure to remind you of that.

He killed his dad because his dad said "what do I know? I always marry whores." Implying dickie's mom, a woman he regularly beat was a whore. That is why dickie killed him, it wasn't for his stepmother.

He killed his stepmother because she was fucking a murderous nigger. No jury in america would find him guilty for that.

Also, she was banging Harold in the posh apartment dickie was renting for her. She was pretty much a whore using any man she could for her own financial gain. I sincerely doubt she loved Hollywood dick. She saw a ticket to America and lots of money.

-obaminated If killing Hollywood Dick was such a noble move why didn't he tell the other mobsters?

Also using men for financial gain was what every female character did they had no choice back then.

The tragedy of the story was that Tony Soprano had shitty male role models Uncle Dickie (asshole), Johnny Boy(absentee father), and Uncle June (insecure asshole who shoots people for no reason)

It isn't a good thing he killed his dad. But he didn't do it out of lust. Motivation matters when you write a character. He did it out of a deep rooted hate of how his father treated his mom and was treating his new wife.

The stepmother tragedy is that she wanted more than she could ever achieve on her own. So she used men for that goal. But as in every morality play, it came to bite her in the ass.

You are partially right about the tragedy being about Tony, who had potential, being corrupted by the life he is around. But the main point is that, "the life", destroys everyone. Johnny boy was a racist asshole. Uncle junior got no respect and called a hit on a made man for laughing at him. Dickie wanted to be a good person but was pressured from the family to start acting more ruthless. And yeah, Tony is also corrupted by the life.

the first murder was accidental... second one pretty much crime of passion too

The important thing to note is that Tony himself didn't know who actually killed dickie. So he was lied to by junior. He likely thought it was a police officer and sent Christopher to get his revenge. Also, speculation on the web is that the voice that confirms the kill to junior is pussy. Meaning several people in the family knew the truth but kept it from Tony.

Tony could've lied to Chris and the cop was just some guy who owed him money.

He either lied or junior told him that lie that Tony genuinely thought was true. Which is the likely case because junior literally called a hit on a made man and no one ever mentions it.

On top of, since junior got little respect from anyone, if people knew about it he would've been killed.
