Black Children Were Jailed for a Crime That Doesn’t Exist. Almost Nothing Happened to the Adults in Charge.

Judge Donna Scott Davenport oversees a juvenile justice system in Rutherford County, Tennessee, with a staggering history of jailing children. She said kids must face consequences, which rarely seem to apply to her or the other adults in charge.

Some kids were playing basketball. One insulted another kids mother. Some girly punches were thrown. Some kid video taped it. Other kids watched.
Remember the last episode of Seinfeld where they were arrested under the good samaritan law? Well that is what happened here. They even arrested a girl that can be heard trying to stop the fight and some kids that were not there when the fight happened.
The over zealous cop that wanted the arrests wanted assault charges on all the kids but was told that wouldn't fly so she went looking through law books to find something to charge the kids with.
A few of the kids were taken to juvie and kept for a couple of days one in isolation. The police have the leeway to release kids to parents if they deem the kids not a threat. They released all the girls but locked up some of the boys.
Doesn't say what happened to the kids actually in the fight though it did mention talking to one he said they were friends now and he didn't think anything should happen. I'm guessing the fighters were let go because they hit like girls but that is just a guess.
It happened in 2016.

If you get closer to the bottom you find out the county has a pattern of this. If you get farther down you see why. It is about money. They created a problem so the county could get funding. A lot of funding. I'm guessing if there was a follow-up they found a good chunk of that money was misappropriated.
