powell wasn't all bad but his role in the iraq war propaganda campaign will be the biggest part of his legacy. the criticism is a bit misplaced though since the worst part of it wasn't going to the UN and promoting the WMD bs (that is the amnesia rationale for the war). the real political support for the war had nothing to do with WMDs but with the Iraq did 9/11 conspiracy theory propaganda campaign which Powell did nothing to oppose at the time.

Powell is/was one of the last Republicans I consider a solid leader and good human being.

The post 9/11 Iraq War was a huge blunder on his part not to stand up against. That's true.

Republicans need more like him in his general demeanor and stoic, level headed leadership.
