House passes sweeping gun bill to raise assault rifle purchase age to 21; plan faces long odds in the Senate

The House on Wednesday passed a sweeping gun bill that would raise the minimum age to purchase an assault rifle in the U.S. from 18 to 21, even though the legislation doesn’t stand much of a chance in the Senate.

The bill, called the Protecting Our Kids Act, would also bar the sale of large-capacity magazines and institute new rules that dictate proper at-home gun storage.

The Democratic-held chamber approved the legislation in a 223-204 vote. It passed in a mostly party line vote: Five Republicans supported the measure, while two Democrats opposed it.

You can argue that they aren't assault rifles until you turn blue in the face, but people are going to call them what they call them.

"institute new rules that dictate proper at-home gun storage."

We gonna have ATF faggots doing safe storage audits now?

========================================
To try to build pressure on Republicans, and mollify moderate House Democrats, the House voted on each piece of the bill in addition to a final vote on the full bill.

Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) left the door open to some Republicans voting for individual pieces of the bill, even if they opposed it on final passage.

“We know some members of our caucus who support some of those components,” he said.

In the end:

10 House Republicans supported the provision on increasing the age for semi-automatic rifles

7 Republicans voted for a provision related to gun trafficking purchases

8 Republicans backed requiring a background checks for ghost guns

3 Republicans voted for a provision related to the safe storage of firearms

13 House Republicans voted for language banning bump stocks gun attachments

4 supported banning the sale of high-capacity magazines.

Republicans voted in mass for another provision related to reports on the National Instant Criminal Background Check system.

"We gonna have ATF faggots doing safe storage audits now?"

No. That's in case something happens with your gun and it wasn't properly secured.

"Australian style gun confiscation in the next 12 years"

Today we're coming for your high capacity magazines.

Tomorrow we're coming for your assault weapons.

Then your pistols.

And we won't stop until we've outlawed finger guns.

Of course if finger guns are outlawed, then only outlaws will have finger guns.

Australia where responsible citizens can have a gun and mass shootings have gone to zero?

Stupid dumbfuck Pillz inhaled the NRA propaganda just like he took Trump's dick down all of his holes.

And he's Canadian too. Dumbass.

There are so many variables separating the US and Australia that it's retarded to compare the two.

That said, it's hilarious that leftwingers pine for Australia, which just spent two years arresting people for chatting online about going outside.

Why does no one mention France? An EU nation with *areas* that have WAY worse crime stats than most other OECD nations.

"Reporting on things in a factual matter is overrated" is a weird position for someone who believes that the internet should be censored of material the government deems to be non-factual.

"Reporting on things in a factual matter is overrated"

I'm sorry ... who do you think gets to decide what an "assault rifle" is?

"We gonna have ATF faggots doing safe storage audits now?"

Hardly feasible, it's more a clear legal liability if things go wrong.

Mass shootings may have gone to zero in Australia but mass homicide by arson has increased over 700% since the Port Arthur massacre and the change to gun laws.

and assault weapons have already been defined. Have been for decades. A gun that has selective firing is and assault weapon.

No liability for politicians if a woman gets killed fiddling with a lock in the dead of night.

It's not gaslighting or deflecting to display ire for a particular section introduced by OP, even if it's not the one you want to talk about, you incorrigible retard.

Do we even know what the bill that is never going to become law says?
