I also find it a fascinating concept that aliens would have mastered interstellar travel and need the resources of this system. You know there are 200 billion stars in the galaxy, and vast clouds of dust and gas stretching thousands of light years. You are thinking like a creature trapped on a planet with finite resources.

And stripping this one of resources comes with the side benefit of making sure that we never rise to threaten them. The point I an making and a fundamental problem is that all assumptions you and I are making are contextual and may very likely be anecdotally based on oh life emerged and transpired on this planet, humans and their quirks. Who knows how much of your own personal demons you are projecting on ET.
