For reasons unknown, voters in Latin America seem intent on electing anti-democratic far-left revolutionaries. This is worrisome to say the least.

And right wingers are always confused by this. Right wingers gripe about the poor getting "free stuff", completely oblivious to the fact that taking care of the poor is what keeps them from rising up and taking what you won't give them ... and potentially much more. Things like universal healthcare aren't socialism. Socialism is what happens when too many people don't get healthcare. Things like making sure that everyone has enough to eat and a roof over their heads isn't socialism ... it's the only enduring protection for capitalism. When the people at the bottom are too poor or too numerous, they will revolt. Republicans see this happen over and over again, and they are confounded every single time. The lesson is that if you want to be free to get obscenely wealthy ... make sure that the people at the bottom are taken care of.

As a matter of fact, even Milton Friedman has stated that single payer is better than what the US does.He prefers a HC savings account, but realizes that giving a monopoly access to captive consumers isnt made "free market" by allowing them to charge whatever they want. It cant be both a government enforced monopoly and let the monopolies then set prices. Itnhas to be a trade off.
