A man in a tactical vest with a semi-automatic rifle and holstered pistol prompted Broken Arrow Justice Center employees to lock their doors June 13, according to a news release. AT&T store employees who then saw the man proceeded to “run out the back of the store,” and multiple 911 calls came from the parking lot of a Target store that he was walking toward, Broken Arrow police said. Due to Oklahoma’s constitutional carry laws, police determined that at each location the man “was not breaking the law” with the rifle and vest. But “quite honestly, nobody needs to be walking down the street with a rifle,” Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton said in an interview about dealing with such situations. “But I don’t make the laws; we just try to live by them and do a very difficult job in a world that’s got those people in it.” Sometimes there isn’t much police can do when a person is armed with a semi-automatic rifle in public. Passed by the state Legislature in early 2019, constitutional carry gives Oklahomans the right to carry firearms without a permit or training. In the case of the man in Broken Arrow, police said that for three reasons — he didn’t have the firearms with him when he tried to enter the Justice Center; the AT&T store did not have a “no firearms allowed” sign posted; and he did not actually try to enter the Target — no laws were broken with regard to his carrying the semi-automatic rifle. murder Member	Tue Jun 21 19:20:52 The relevant part of Part 2 ... =========================================== He was arrested, however, after he was found to have a recently-issued unrelated warrant and to be in possession of an over .45-caliber firearm and brass knuckles, both of which are illegal in Oklahoma. =========================================== Turns out the law abiding citizen who couldn't be arrest for carrying around an assault rifle ... 1. Had an outstanding warrant. 2. Was carrying around a > .45 caliber firearm (pistol?) ... which is illegal in Oklahoma for some random reason. 3. Was in possession of brass knuckles which is illegal in Oklahoma. It is perfectly legal to carry around an assault rifle in plain view of everyone ... but brass knuckles are illegal. Amazing!

Honest question, does it even register with you that so is the look of the weapons? That they look like assault rifles because they want to feed into that mindset? That they are designed to look like the types of weapons that are normally used to shoot other humans rather than the types of weapons that are normally associated with shooting other types of animals, because they want to put people in the mindset of warfare?

I'm still waiting for confirmation that the shooter didn't commit suicide.

No, because a) the design of the AR-15 is based on the function of its various components (it "looks" the way it does because that's how it needs to "look" to work correctly), b) an AR-15 is not a hunting weapon, and no one here has ever pretended otherwise, c) both hunting and personnel guns can "look" like anything; neither one has an aesthetic that's inherent to its function, d) related to (c), most hunting guns look like guns that you would probably consider to be weapons of war (ask your average non-gun owner to explain the difference between a Ruger 10/22 and an M1 Garand for example), e) People buy AR-15s because they're reliable, easy to operate, and fun to shoot, not because the gun's design causes them to subconsciously think about how they can mow down a cafeteria of school children with one Hope I answered your question.
