Financial Times on Gotland: "World War Can Begin Here"

From a purely military strategic point of view, few other places in Europe are more important than Gotland. It writes the Financial Times, whose reporter has traveled around the island and met a long line of private individuals.

In the headline, FT writes that the article is about "life on the idyllic Swedish island where the third world war can begin". The newspaper describes how the military presence has increased on Gotland since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.

Anyhoo, I said this earlier. Gotland is the reason why Sweden has to join the USA….I mean Nato. The US regards Gotland as a unsinkable aircraft carrier. And in the case of a war with Russia, they want access to Gotland. Because it would be easier to defend the Baltic states, and it would be easier to deny Russia access to the Baltic Sea. So, the US basically told Sweden: either you join Nato and give us access to Gotland, or we will occupy Gotland in the case of a war.

Sweden was probably threatened and bullied to join the military alliance in which the two strongest military forces, USA, women does not have a right to their own bodies, and Turkey where Pride Parades are illegal, among other things. Is this really an alliance for Sweden? Are these values really worth fighting for?

I expect that Russia will eventually attempt to enlarge Snake Island so it can be used as an airfield.
