rank | Fri Aug 05 15:15:00 2022 The Cartwheel galaxy is the product of two galaxies colliding and forming a new structure, about 500 million light years away. Stunning Photoshop work. http://go.nasa.gov/3SfEQgR More info at link and also a picture taken in Medium Infrared. |

rank | Fri Aug 05 17:58:48 2022 It is normal for things to look different in different spectral bands. |

rank | Fri Aug 05 22:21:23 2022 There will come a day when 99.9% of the universe is completely invisible to us, with the light from nearly all of existence redshifted into oblivion. We should be thankful we got to be alive before that. |
Rugian
rank | Fri Aug 05 22:32:21 2022 But of course, we can always hold on to the hope that Matthew McConaughey will discover a way for us to travel across time and space with the power of love. One day, Cartwheel Galaxy, we may get to you yet. |

rank | Fri Aug 05 23:36:07 2022 This makes me curious. I wonder if the people who deny that we landed on the moon also don't believe any of these images that Webb, Hubble, and all these other telescopes capture. I mean there's really no reason that they can't be faked. |
Nimatzo
rank | Fri Aug 05 23:38:31 2022 Yes. |

rank | Sat Aug 06 01:36:53 2022 And the thread title is just trolling WTB who actually said these pictures were photo shopped fakes extrapolated from *beep boop* ”data”. He even felt bad for the astronomers feeling they need to qualify their science with shiney pictures for the plebes. Natural science is apparently this soulless thing that leads to nihilism. Hence why we need Heidegger and Foucault. The irony here is that this fact about false color astrophotography, is exactly the kind of thing that readers of pop science magazines and morning show hosts say with a dumb smirk. Like they have the inside scope on how the astronomical sausage is made. I miss WTB already :) |
murder
rank | Sat Aug 06 02:18:01 2022 I've got news for you ... most people think they are real unenhanced uncolorized photos. |
Nimatzo
rank | Sat Aug 06 02:48:22 2022 That would still be more correct that what he claimed. They are real pictures of real physical phenomena. |
Habebe
rank | Sat Aug 06 02:51:00 2022 Why don't we have 5+ JW like telescopes going all over searching for shit? Doesn't seem that expensive. |
Rugian
rank | Sat Aug 06 03:00:07 2022 Most people also thought that Opportunity's last words were "my battery is low and it's getting dark." Apparently space isn't interesting unless you add some gay ass feel feels into the mix. |

rank | Sat Aug 06 03:07:43 2022 Sounds more like HAL. lol :o) |

rank | Sat Aug 06 04:14:48 2022 Rugian, Its in the pitch. Option A) Flush more $ to the Ukraine. Option B)5 space cameras and 30 billion+ leftover for a wicked pizza party. They say it cost 10 billion (9.7) But much of that Id imagine was designing it, it should be far cheaper to reproduce it. |
Rugian
rank | Sat Aug 06 04:20:53 2022 Habebe I mean there's no reason those things can't be mutually exclusive. Okay, so Congress just appropriated $10 billion for a telescope...you give 5 bucks to some kid to draw a picture of a galaxy in Photoshop, give $10mm to the NASA guys to shut them up, and that leaves you with $9,989,999,995 to flush down the Ukraine. Win win win win win. |
Rugian
rank | Sat Aug 06 04:21:12 2022 Bah. Can't -> have to be |
Rugian
rank | Sat Aug 06 04:26:52 2022 Shit, I'm exhausted, I can't type correctly. Time to give up foor the evening. |
Habebe
rank | Sat Aug 06 04:46:11 2022 We could find planets habitable for life, or asteroids worth hundreds of trillions of dollars. Plus a wicked fucking pizza party. |
Paramount
rank | Mon Aug 08 23:39:45 2022 Cartwheel galaxy. It looks like it could be a boss from Dark Souls. Good name also. |
