FBI’s Wray denounces threats to law enforcement after agency searches Trump's home

Violent rhetoric has spiked online following the FBI search at Mar-a-Lago on Monday.

The director of the FBI had strong words Wednesday for supporters of former President Donald Trump who have been using violent rhetoric in the wake of his agency’s search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home.

Christopher Wray, who was appointed as the agency’s director in 2017 by Trump, called threats circulating online against federal agents and the Justice Department “deplorable and dangerous.”

“I’m always concerned about threats to law enforcement,” Wray said. “Violence against law enforcement is not the answer, no matter who you’re upset with.”

Wray made the remarks following a news conference during a long-planned visit to the agency’s field office in Omaha, Nebraska, where he discussed the FBI’s focus on cybersecurity. He declined to answer questions about the hours-long search Monday by FBI agents of Trump’s Palm Beach, Florida resort.

It has been easy to find the threats and a call to arms in those corners of the internet favored by right-wing extremists since Trump himself announced the search of his Florida home. Reactions included the ubiquitous “Lock and load” and calls for federal agents and even U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to be assassinated.

Brian Murphy, a former official at the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI who's now an executive at the open source intelligence firm Logically, said his company has observed a large uptick in threats against FBI personnel and facilities on social media platforms since the Mar-a-Largo search.

Murphy told NBC News the threats were detected as part of Logically’s daily research into threats to election officials and operations. He said the threats against the FBI often contained references to violence against specific targets.

The online threats follow the same patterns the firm has seen in its election work, Murphy said, and are found either openly or underground on various platforms, including Telegram, Rumble, Gettr, and Gab.

Logically has identified threats against FBI individuals and facilities, and has provided the relevant information to law enforcement, he said.

“As an experienced intelligence official, I can say that I have never personally seen anything like the spike in threats seen in the past few days against FBI personnel and facilities, emerging amid already rising threats to election officials and infrastructure,” Murphy said.

On Gab — a social media site popular with white supremacists and antisemites — one poster going by the name of Stephen said he was awaiting “the call” to mount an armed revolution.

“All it takes is one call. And millions will arm up and take back this country. It will be over in less than 2 weeks,” the post said.

Another Gab poster implored others: “Lets get this started! This unelected, illegitimate regime crossed the line with their GESTAPO raid! It is long past time the lib socialist filth were cleansed from American society!”

The search of Trump’s residence Monday is part of an investigation into whether Trump took classified records from the White House to his Florida residence, according to people familiar with the matter. The Justice Department has been investigating the potential mishandling of classified information since the National Archives and Records Administration said it had received from Mar-a-Lago 15 boxes of White House records, including documents containing classified information, earlier this year.

‘Defund the FBI’? GOP leaders sharpen criticism of FBI, DOJ after Mar-a-Lago search

Monday’s surprise search and seizure of documents at Mar-a-Lago elicited a forceful reaction from top Republican and conservative officials, many of whom condemned the federal law enforcement agencies, talked openly of retribution and even spoke of defunding them outright.

History begs to differ.

The Right has long been at odds with the FBI.

Maybe a compromise between Maga and Antifa is possible. Defund the FBI AND the police. Then let every citizen buy his own gun and be his own police. That would make the NRA happy also, and the arms industry.

Federal agencies have always been more fair and equitable than local and state agencies which were usually infiltrated with local degenerates who pushed things like poll taxes and largely enabled lynching and other crimes.

People who hate the Feds tend to be ingrates and ignoramuses.

"The Right has long been at odds with the FBI."

Such BS. Pre-Trump the right had a massive boner for law enforcement. Still do actually when it comes to "stop crime!!!" battle cry. But yeah, when it's their own cult leader being investigated for crime, oh hell no! Defund!!

Why do people associate suppoet for police as the same as support for feds?

Yes they are a kind of police, but they are also not the same.

No it's not just this. The right has a problem with law enforcement every time cops or the feds forget that their only legitimate function is to keep colored people in their place.

Laws are not to be enforced on white people.

In general, the "Reagan style" right loved WACO and Ruby ridge. YEAH KICK ASS AMERICA attitude. I lived it in conservative farm town America.

It's only the extremist right who thought violent abusive cults and forming militias in the 1990s woods to fight the new world order were butt hurt.

Ah yes, only the extreme thought it was crazy to send an army after a dude and his wife and kids in the woods because of idiotic shotgun stock length laws.

As it turns out they needed an army. "Comply" doesn't just apply to black people. For some reason white people think that if they decide the laws don't apply to them and choose to get violent, then law enforcement should just leave them alone.

Comply doesn't apply to anyone if the fault is with the government lol

They issued an erroneous letter with the wrong court date, and the faggot judge refused to rescind the fta warrant even after being shown a copy of the letter.

The only tragedy is that child and dog-killer Degan was the only Marshall casualty.

The tragedy is that the government didn't go in with Apache attack helicopters and rip everyone and everything there to shreds.

Yes, when someone doesn't show up to a court hearing because the state agent sent them a wrong letter, we should blow up their house - because black people or something

No, because they think that they have a right to resist with deadly force because they are sovereign citizens.

Yes, when your dogs run into the woods (because rocks were thrown at them, which the friend and child did not know) you have a right to follow them. When strange men jump out of the bushes and shoot said dog on your property, you have a right to retaliate with force.

There is a reason these folks were cleared of charges and received hefty settlements.

Murder, They executed an in armed woman holding an infant, sniper shot to the head and burned a building of women and children alive.

Regardless of race, that is wrong.

"Ah yes, only the extreme thought it was crazy to send an army after a dude and his wife and kids in the woods because of idiotic shotgun stock length laws."

IIRC an FBI agent asked him to see off his shotgun and when he did so to what wqs still a legal length they shot his wife in the head while holding their infant child.
