Member | Sat Sep 24 12:21:08 We all know the cartels are holding back progress. The old idea was that "Get rid of illegal drugs and get rid odnthe cartels" Im skeptical. Sure it will lower their income. But they have plenty of options to make money via other routes that we just can't legalize. So that leads a few options. 1. Military operations- Use the US military. Would be difficult without massive civilian casualties and likely domestic terrorist attacks. 2. Negotiate from strength, line the area with US encampments, broker a deal with the cartels allowing them certain avenues of income while banning human trafficking and extortion. 3. Hire them, as long as they can make a lucrative income what do they care? Massive investments into Mexico, with strong oversight to not have it appropriated. The cartels will lose influence with a more affluent populace with time. Why would work for the cartels if you can make similar money without the risks? |
