Much better tech than we have access to in our day to day life was "demoed" in the 70-90s. Other than the demos being contrived, the products themselves were never scalable. Honda's P3 never made it past a tech demo. At this point, they are equivalent in the sense that they are both useless demos at the moment, but there is little doubt that the Tesla robot has better and more general software technology powering it than the preprogrammed P3 demo.
