By any reasonable measure China is clearly a better comparison to Nazi Germany than Russia is. California has a GDP more than double that of Russia. Appeasement otherwise stopped on the 3rd of September when France and the UK declared war on Germany. Germany would prolly have delayed its attack on Chekoslovakia until September 1939 if Munich had not worked (Chekoslovakia had an impressive military with impressive mountain fortifications. 1/3rd of the tanks Germany had on the invasion of France were formally Chekoslovakian). Germany would never have gone to war with Poland or the USSR as US entry in 1941 would have permanently blocked it.
