I do love referenced titles, way more than I should.

Anyway, so 7 minutes ago Kherson was reported to have lost power due to Russian shelling.

The power was out in alot of the Ukrsine earlier. Its already cold there daily temps around 35 degrees in non barbarian measurements.

Side.note: The metric system has plenty of advantages, but weather temperature is not one of them. My car gets 40 rods to the highest and that's the way I likes it!

Any who, this was all predicted by pretty much everyone. Russia would wait til winter andcur the power.

How was this not planned for more?

Because Ukraine is winning!

Yesterday Ursula von der Leyen gave a speech saying there have been 100k Ukraine soldiers killed.

She deleted the video off of Twitter but... 100k dead. Lol

She said "100k officers" technically. I was amused. Imagine the hay murder et al. would have made of it if a pro-russian figure had said that about Russian losses.

Lavrov just made a 3 hour long speech explaining the Russia position. It tries to avoid hitting purely civilian infrastructure, but does target dual use like electricity.

Frankly, the US had a way wider target selection list in Iraq than Russia does in Ukraine. All kinds of things were taken out to undermine both Iraqi forces, then later insurgent efforts. Falluja and Takrit had neither sewage, water or electricity by design when the USMC was dealing with elements there.

Electricity is generally considered a legitimate targets. Dam busting raids of wwii are considered heroic for example.

The big picture remains that part of the motivation for the war is population. 3.8 million people born in Donbas currently live in Russia.

Russia, by design, wants the ~10 million Ukrainian nationals that are culturally Russian. It would not mind a lot of the remaining 30 million and change to bugger off and live in the EU.

A war crime in one sense, but the peace process in post war Europe had as premise mass migrations to avoid future conflicts. So a follow-up on that in another sense.

Ironically, the refugees living in the West may be exactly what Ukraine needs. Ukraine is a pretty corrupt country. One way to fix that is by lifting people's expectations. Someone staying in Norway for several years is unlikely to accept business as usual in Ukraine when he or she returns. That person knows things can be better. Way better. And would want the Ukrainian State to live up to the Scandinavian model.

"Kyiv power supply cuts in the interests of fairness: Some 750 residential buildings across the Ukrainian capital that have enjoyed continuous electricity during power outages will now have their supply cut to “ensure fair and equal conditions," according to a local energy provider."

Like I said, a problem with corruption. Fair and equal conditions probably are just a nice way of saying these special residential building now have their private generators set up. But that is just me speculating.
jergul

Thu Dec 01 07:38:23
Around 1,500 buildings in total are connected to the same supply lines “as critical infrastructure facilities" including pumping stations, boiler stations and hospitals, said DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy provider, on Thursday.

Power has been rationed in Kyiv as a result of persistent targeting of energy infrastructure by Russian strikes.

DTEK said that 750 of those residential buildings (out of a total 1,497) will now have their supplies cut in the interests of fairness.

The company has been carrying out “extensive technical work to optimize the power supply scheme for critical infrastructure and, where possible, created an alternative scheme for residential buildings,” meaning they can now apply “emergency or stabilization outages to them," it said.

The remaining 747 buildings will remain connected to the same supply lines because DTEK “cannot change the current electricity supply scheme due to the technical characteristics of the network."

===========

Complete BS of course. Electricity companies can always cut power to individual customers. Not doing so is a choice. I guess the remaining 747 buildings have not yet gotten their private generators installed :).

Like I said. A problem with corruption.

"Nuzhin had been serving a jail term for murder but described how he had been recruited by Wagner and was then captured by the Ukrainian military. He told Ukrainian journalists he had switched sides voluntarily and denounced the mercenary group.

It is thought he was then part of a prisoner exchange and within days a gruesome video involving a sledgehammer was posted on a Wagner-linked channel on the Telegram messaging app."

That is the story they are sticking with? A guy who wanted to switch sides was instead sent back to Russia in what amounted to an emergency transfer? Prisoner exchanges generally take many months. Ukraine has also made a huge point of not exchanging POWs that wish to remain in Ukrainian captivity for fear of repucutions.

Or was he released into the hands of rogue elements (for lack of a better term) of the Ukrainian military, then sumarily executed?

I want a greater degree of honesty I think. I would prefer to trust the Ukrainian ministry of defence more than I do its Russian equivalent. Sadly, that is currently not credibly realistic.

The side of good, should, uhm, be good. That includes being truthful about things not directly relating to ongoing operations.

The US so far has spent more than the entire Rusdian military budget, or so Ive heard, $105 Billion.

And we didn't plan better for what seems to have been the modt obvious move.

Hey guess what? They may cut petrol supplies soon too.Probably should prepare for that possibility.

That was cut in feb. Ukraine used to get almost all its diesel and gasoline from Belorus and Russia.

Next will probably be natural gas supplies. A lot of the larger generators being sent to Ukraine are primarily NG powered.

Lavrov also said that if Ukraine is interested in talks, Russia will listen.

Is this Ukraine’s last chance to cut their losses and save themselves before they will be annihilated by Russia’s coming offensive?

Let’s see if Zelenskyj and those who influence him are seriously interested or if they, Like Adolf Hitler, will refuse to surrender and instead fight to the end – sacrificing lives and destroying the whole country in the process.

Perhaps Zelenskyj can’t talk with Russia because he would be shot and killed by his Nazi battallions if he did. So the future does not look very good for Zelenskyj. He should consider to flee to the USA or to whatever the name of that Island is where he has his multi-million dollar mansion. Or, he can hope that Russia will kill all the Nazis and then he may be able to talk with Russia and accept a surrender.

Yes, casualties. A 100k dead seems reasonable.

Ukrainian casualties are atrocious. The Ukrainian soldiers say this. The new york times repeatedly reports this. Russia reports this. Ukraine admits it.

Atrocious losses for 9 months add up quick. This week they admitted to 250 daily wounded in Bakhmut alone. That is a defensive operation.

Their offensives for the last month solid have all but abject failures - multiple company sized failures per day.

People aren't in short supply though. They have tens of thousands more in training across Europe and in Ukraine as we speak.

Still, difficult to fight a war with no electricity, running water, or working trains.

And again, they are all but out of tanks. We'll see offensives in Kharkov near Liman and in Zaporizhzhia soon. And that will be all they have, I think. The worsening situation in Bakhmut would previously have triggered a premature effort, but it seems their NATO masters have them listening better now.

The lack of equipment was added to the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Bakhmut: the main thing

Due to the temperature drop in the Bakhmut district, the problem with spare parts and rubber for foreign equipment has worsened for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which the Military Chronicle reported earlier. During the day, impassable mud is replaced by severe frosts, which makes it difficult to use wheeled armored vehicles MaxxPro, Bushmaster, Sisu and Kirpi.

For the delivery of ammunition, medicines and food to the garrison of the city, the Ground Forces of Ukraine use Soviet armored personnel carriers MT-LB, removed from storage in the Dnepropetrovsk and Kharkov regions.

The advanced units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are forced to get to the line of clashes in civilian vehicles, which is why both regular formations and territorial defense brigades suffer heavy losses.

From November 30 to December 4, the shortage of armored vehicles caused high losses in the 109th and 241st Territorial Defense Brigades in the southeast in the area of Opytny, the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment of Belarusian Nationalists, and the 71st Jaeger Brigade. The situation in the Azov National Battalion (the organization was recognized as a terrorist organization) is especially difficult: among others, the deputy commander of the company, Anton Radko, was seriously wounded. When trying to get out of the shelling on the southeastern outskirts of Bakhmut, five Georgian mercenaries from the "Foreign Legion" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were killed.

The highest percentage of losses in these units was recorded as a result of the use of Kornet and Konkurs ATGMs by Wagner PMC units, as well as T-80BV tanks supported by D-20 and Giacint-B guns.

I see Pillz still has a boner for Putin and thinks good things are happening for their 8.5 year military adventure into Ukraine.

Look at the fuck'n control map bro. Where Russia has been in the last 9 months. Where they are now. Rumor tactical level details might inspire some hope for Putin supporters. But it's purely psychological morphine without treating the bleedout wound. At the strategic level, it's all bad for Russia and has been since April, as proof by their continual loss of large chunks of formerly occupied areas every couple of months.

I dunno. Its fine that Russia suffered from a case of overreach given how much support Ukraine mobilized in the West, but the prewar population of the areas in kherson and kharkiv was around 400k, with more than half in the city of kherson alone. The line of contact is now half that it was before the retreats...

Ukraine is fighting on life support from the West. It is hard to see how it is winning strategically. For comparison, Germany did not reach the same loss of gdp as Ukraine has suffered before the winter of 1944.

You do understand that procurements are funded, there is not enough equipment available for delivery. Germany thinks this will continue until 2025. This includes the 10 billion funding earmarked f-35s expected for delivery in 2026.

Ukrainans could drive all of the 25,000 MRAP at the same time and at high speed to Moscow. Putin would not be able to stop that many vehicles. Let’s say 10,000 of them will reach Moscow. The soldiers inside the vehicles could then jump out and storm the Russian parliament, capture Putin, and drive back to Kiev.

Blinken Says US Had No Role in Strikes on Russia

(Bloomberg) -- Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Tuesday that the US had not encouraged or helped Ukraine to launch strikes inside Russia.

http://new...us-220239546.html?guccounter=1

Ukrainian officials did not formally confirm carrying out drone strikes inside Russia

“They will have less aviation equipment after being damaged due to these mysterious explosions,” said Yurii Ihnat, spokesman for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/russian-airfield-hit-day-after-drone-strikes-bases-94551765

The US denies responsibility. Ukraine has not said that it was they who did it, but calls the attacks ”mysterious”.

So maybe it is the Brits who are attacking Russia?

"Lol pillz the master strategist strikes again."

Stingers been out of production for decades.

You produce 15,000 155mm shells a month. Ukraine goes through that in 2-3 days.

The bid for a North American producer who can do 30,000 155mm shells monthly has gone unfulfilled for now. It was put out in August.

List goes on. DoD has said in August, September, October and November that stocks are dangerously low. Your shipments have accordingly been decreasing.

You can not physically produce enough to maintain aid to Ukraine, resupply your own stocks, and resupply Europe.

There are numerous articles about this issue both on MSM sites and smaller military news sites.

Ukraine lost, and all it cost you was billions of dollars in aid + the added cost of increasing production + purchasing at 2022 prices (so grossly inflated compared to what you paid decades ago or throughout the Iraq and afghan wars).

America sucks at everything, and you've shown China that Taiwan is up for grabs because youre greedy, cowardly, and incompetent.

The problem is industry does not want to gear up for batch production. It only wants capacity to meet long term monthly demand.

So, sure, you could gear up for 100 000 shells a month, 1.2 million a year, 12 million in 10 years 36 million in 30 years (which would be the leveled cost investment period).

If you think you need 36 million shells over the next 30 years.
