rank | Sat Jan 07 14:42:21 2023 Communist. It seems he wants to take over Disney World. http://www...tis-backed-plan-163307347.html |

rank | Sat Jan 07 15:38:10 2023 That's not going to fly. The law is pretty explicit on property rights. If the state is going to take control, they are going to have to buy it. |
murder
rank | Sat Jan 07 15:39:41 2023 And yeah, that's some serious Fidel Castro vibes. |

rank | Sat Jan 07 22:45:51 2023 Did you guys only read the headline? They are pulling their corporate self governance board, thats it. So how is that commie? |
murder
rank | Sat Jan 07 23:46:32 2023 You want to know why a governor appointed board governing you private property would violate the constitution? |

rank | Sun Jan 08 01:01:09 2023 Yeah. Murder and patom didn't read the article and don't understand what communism is |

rank | Sun Jan 08 17:02:36 2023 DeSantis is the closest thing to a Putin in any Governors office in the country. Mandating curriculum in colleges etc. |
Capitalist
rank | Sun Jan 08 18:06:15 2023 It's not communism but it is very close. DeSantis is certainly no libertarian, Hot Rod would not like him. |

rank | Mon Jan 09 01:16:35 2023 A plan was announced Friday to introduce a bill into the Florida Legislature that would replace Walt Disney World's special self-governing power with a state-run board. **** This is an antiquated deal where Disney ran a corporate local government that is being revoked. Most companies are not allowed self governance and private cops, fire dept etc. |
patom
rank | Mon Jan 09 03:46:16 2023 It's called a 'Company Town'. There have been hundreds if not thousands of them throughout US history. From mining, to manufacturing, to textiles, etc. etc. |

rank | Mon Jan 09 04:07:06 2023 yes and most were very abusive towards the workers. Disney fucked up. They had a sweet deal and all they needed to do for that to continue is not rock the boat. They tried to flip the boat. What is proposed should be a temporary thing though so Disney can pay their debt then the board should be dissolved and just become part of the state/county. Disney originally got the deal because there was no infrastructure in the area and Disney agreed to create and maintain the structure needed. |

rank | Mon Jan 09 04:28:19 2023 "Libertarians" supporting not the taking of private land for the public good ... but government governance of that property while sticking the owner with the bill. |

rank | Mon Jan 09 06:30:53 2023 I'm saying the best outcome since a change is coming is for the land to be treated just like the rest of Florida. And it isn't private land other than the actual theme parks. |

rank | Mon Jan 09 07:26:16 2023 Patom, Are you coming out in favor of company towns? And again, its largely an antiquated system born out of necessity. If a town only exists because the local mill or whatnot, yes it makes sense tonhave a government and the company would chalk it up tona cost of doing business in that location and yes, often exploited the situation. |

rank | Mon Jan 09 13:25:13 2023 "I'm saying the best outcome since a change is coming is for the land to be treated just like the rest of Florida. And it isn't private land other than the actual theme parks." It all private land. Disney built up and built out every square inch of it and maintains it including public services. |
murder
rank | Mon Jan 09 13:33:57 2023 You say it isn't private property ... so who the fuck owns it? And how the fuck do things work where you live? Does the state government appoint your local government? Because where I and pretty much everyone lives, the locals elect their own officials. |

rank | Mon Jan 09 13:38:00 2023 ================================= In 1967 the Florida State legislature, working with Walt Disney World Company, created a special taxing district – called the Reedy Creek Improvement District – that would act with the same authority and responsibility as a county government. Walt Disney World could then move ahead with its vision to turn 38.5 square miles of largely uninhabited pasture and swamp land, into a global destination resort that welcomes millions of visitors every year. The new legislation said that landowners within the Reedy Creek Improvement District, primarily Walt Disney World, would be solely responsible for paying the cost of providing typical municipal services like power, water, roads, fire protection etc. ================================= http://www.rcid.org/about/ It's a landgrab, and as proposed by Ron DeSantis it is outright theft. It is the appropriation of of private property while forcing the usurped owners to continue financing the property that is being stolen from them. Even Fidel didn't dream of that one. |

rank | Mon Jan 09 14:20:08 2023 How about Disney pulling a 'Textile' and closing down and moving to Puerto Rico. Back independence in Puerto Rico and then demolishing all the infrastructure they built in Orlando. Questions? Are the citizens of Florida that live in the Disney controlled area asking DeSantis to do this? Have they voted to oust Disney? Or is this just a pissing contest between DeSantis and Disney? Where did this push from DeSantis come from? Is it a long standing problem? Where have all the Company Towns gone and why? There are some that are still here because their resource is here, like coal. But many of them were able to pack up and move to countries with little or no environmental laws, labor laws, and lots of easily bribed politicians. Now most of that can in a way be attributed to Progressives that pushed Labor rights and environmental fixes. What seems unusual in this situation is a Conservative trying to squeeze a private industry out. |

rank | Mon Jan 09 17:15:43 2023 Lol, murder and patom are so lost into their hate of DeSantis that they are actually arguing for disney of all companies to be able to run their own town. The irony and hilarious stupidity of it all. |

Does the state government appoint your local government?" I have some acreage, but I still don't govern myself. There are Sherriffs and judges etc. That I pay taxes for. "Sherriff" in the South seems to basically mean cop. I point this put because my grandfather was a Sherriff in PA and it was a far more limited job, he would transport prisoners, put up legal notices etc. It also allowed him to use his gun smithing skills with alot less red tape as he worked on all the local cops and judges guns. Technically he was a sheriff in flushing NY, but in reality he just had a buddy give him the honorary title so he could buy/sell and service guns in NY without expensive permits. |

You answered your own question. It isn't private land. It is a district within the state of Florida given special consideration. Disney couldn't leave well enough alone and might lose that special consideration. The fucked up part is they are severely behind on payments owing billions. If the land was given back to the county the county would have to absorb that debt. That is why this is going the way it is. Disney will be responsible for their debt and the land will going forward be maintained by the state if this passes. |

rank | Tue Jan 10 00:59:33 2023 "Disney will be responsible for their debt and the land will going forward be maintained by the state if this passes." Which means that everyone's property taxes will go up. Win Win for DeSantis? What is the reason for this push by DeSantis? What is he gaining and how are the people of that area benefiting? |
