Member | Wed Sep 20 07:32:32 Biden administration to create climate corps program, a major progressive ask BY ZACK BUDRYK - 09/20/23 8:10 AM ET The White House will create a federal Climate Corps, a major wish list item for progressive Democrats and environmentalist groups, Biden administration officials confirmed on a call with reporters Tuesday. On the call, administration officials said the program will employ 20,000 people in its first year. These recruits, they said, will be “doing the important task of conserving and restoring our lands and waters, bolstering community resilience, deploying clean energy … implementing energy efficiency technologies that will cut consumer costs for the American people, and advancing environmental justice.” The program will be open for signups beginning Wednesday. President Biden was himself a vocal proponent of a corps on the campaign trail in 2020 and in the first years of his administration. Language establishing such a program was included in early drafts of the Build Back Better Act, the Democratic-majority Congress’s first attempt at a climate and infrastructure bill that was later withdrawn. Officials on the call confirmed that the program announced Wednesday would include “that same spirit and that structure, that intention” as the earlier proposals. Echoing a frequent parallel drawn by Biden, an official on the call said that the program would be modeled on the New Deal-era Civilian Conservation Corps, but while that program was open only to white men, “[t]his climate corps will uplift and empower a diverse and inclusive workforce.” Administration officials were also asked on the call about the program’s budget and the source of those funds, as well as its position within the federal bureaucracy, but said further details would be forthcoming. The announcement came a day after a coalition of more than 50 congressional Democrats, led by Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), called on Biden to establish a climate corps through executive action. In an interview with The Hill, Varshini Prakash, executive director of the progressive environmental advocacy group Sunrise Movement, who was also on the press call, said that advocates “really see this as the start and not the finish … and we know if we have any hopes of heading off the worst of, of, of climate change, we will have to expand and build upon the initial first steps that have been made here.” “It will take a massive effort to decarbonize our economy and do it on the scale and timeline that science and justice require and that is going to mean we have to employ.. hundreds of thousands and millions of people in the work of averting climate catastrophe and making our communities more resilient,” she added. http://the...ogram-a-major-progressive-ask/ |

Member | Wed Sep 20 07:33:49 Apparently Biden has the power to unilaterally form a 20,000-strong army to carry out far-left campaigns across the country. All without the authorization of Congress. We have never had a president who has less respect for the rule of law than this one. Biden is an absolute shithead. |

But I agree that this army won't be around for long. Biden's MO seems to be: - He gets pressured from the far-left wing of his party to do something he knows is blatantly unconstitutional. - Rather than tell the far left to pound sand, he announces that he will in fact do what they demand via unilateral executive order - He lets the program run for the year or so it takes to go through the court system - When the courts inevitably strike down the program as unconstitutional, Biden considers that a "win" as he kept the far-left in his pocket and can now attack the courts as "illegitimate" for not ruling in his favor He's such a disgusting "president." We can't get Trump back fast enough. |

iChihuaha | Wed Sep 20 16:57:34 This should settle all the paranoia and skepticism some of you have towards climate change. The Klimat Schutzstaffel will put everything in order. You will see. In all seriousness, this is essentially one of social democracies big political plays. You create meaningless institutions that employ a lot of people with useless degrees (or half a degree) that have no real jobs or problems to solve. So, they start making them up and finding ever smaller problems to spend massive amounts of money on. Quickly you have created a class of dimwits whose livelihood, careers and feeling useful depends on you being in power, so they act according to cult program, even when you are in opposition, thus you are never far from power. The deep social democracy. Unfortunatly, things are proceeding as Palpatine foresaw. In Sweden, we are having a breathing paus, in a raging see of what I explained above. Our rightwing government is slashing some of this shit, specifically on the cultural front that is deeply infested with marxists and woke garbage. You can hear the shrieks and screeches all over. |

I know you are not so dense as to believe this is about clean air and clean water. If it were about clean air and water they would be pushing for nuclear energy and expand the use of natural gas. |

And nuclear has a waste problem ... as in there is nowhere to store it. |

"Nothing is good, everything sucks, this may be illegal but it will fail anyways so why get worked up over clean air and water?" Like how the fuck does one even begin to take any position to oppose that empty void of nothing? |

iChihuaha | Fri Sep 22 01:14:14 ”And nuclear has a waste problem ... as in there is nowhere to store it.” Not really no. There is a systematic approach we could have to nuclear where we could reuse spent fuel and ultimately end up with low grade waste that would only be highly toxic for a couple of hundred years. Also the waste is relative to our folksy understanding of (mountains) of waste, very very very small. All the world nuclear waste, ever produced, some of which has been reprocessed is less than 400 000 tonnes. Things that get in the way of that approach are many, one being our short sighted understanding of energy price. Going full nuclear and reusing fuel, will give us energy that costs more than periods when energy is dirt cheap. But it will be stable, both in terms of reliability and cost. |

But roughly two-thirds of green-energy projects announced since it became law are going to Republican-held congressional districts, a POLITICO analysis found. http://www...from-dems-climate-law-00078420 |
