Separating by series.

Hard pass I'm afraid - really don't want to get into messing around with customs processes and import tax etc.

I have enough trouble every time my in-law send something.

"Hard pass I'm afraid - really don't want to get into messing around with customs processes ..."

Especially when there are bound to be trace amounts of illicit substances all over the cargo.

"customs processes and import tax etc."

Forwyn:

Not be an arse about it - probably not very hard if you know what your are doing, but for what would be a few hundred quid, finding out is not really an interesting proposition, let alone whatever go-betweening I'd need to do with the buyer, or engaging with any admin if something went kaka with the shipment.

It's not a big deal. You declare, you pay. The end. It's no hassle, unless it is something that is subject of regulation, like a car, an animal, live human beings. etc.

You could also declare it as a gift, which is very much a possibility if a habebe is sending the package and not a company, and if the value is below a certain amount, you don't even pay customs.

I remember some things and stuff from when my wife ordered a second hand dress (worn by the then Miss Hawaii) from the US. It was quite the dress, I approved.

Yeah it's the declarations.

Last time my in laws sent something it got held up for weeks and then they sent us a bill for some tiny amount of money because they reckoned we'd declared it wrong (I can't remember if it was the value or something). Spent ages on the phone.

I can totally see $16k of comics (unless it's uninsured, which would be dumb) getting stuck in some kind of bullshit. "No mate, that's not books, that's classified as rare artworks".

Very unlikely that comic books would fall within the type of cultural good that are regulated. Would you believe it, I have a father who is a painter and has shipped paintings to the US and back.

Sorry, there are no legal obstacles compelling you to not help habebe in the future :-( You just have to say no for some other reason.

How do you think I “found” you? Psychic powers? You remember you actually linked your Phd thesis on UP, right? The answer I didn’t need to find you, because you were never lost.

Nowhere have I said legal reasons compel me not to. I've just said it's not worth the likely hassle.

The issue isn't shipping things to the US, it's shipping them to the UK.

Post Brexit they started being very anal about checking packages and charging import VAT to deal with VAT fraud between the UK and EU, but because of WTO rules they have to apply these checks fairly to all international parcels and it's just a fucking pain frankly.

I sent my brother in law (who lives in Germany) some stuff he left at Christmas and I had to wade through a list of customs codes just to declare the contents of the package.

Did I link to my thesis? That wasn't very clever - probably back before this place turned into a serious career risk.

If you've found me, you seem to get a lot of details wrong.

This forum can be fun....no worries, Seb. I have more comics contacts overseas now, I would just pay them if needed.

I did get my hands on two new showcase books.

30 ,1st Aquaman silver age

34, 1st silver age Atom (bigger key than you may think)
