But if Trump wins the election then Nato member countries will have to pay their dues if they want the USA to defend them. Am I getting this right?

If Trump wins Europe will have to wait till Putin comes in and demonstrates how beneficial it is to live under his rule. Possibly hoping that the USA can ramp up production of war materials enough and the demise of the Kingdom of Trump before they come to liberate Europe.
