http://www...ediazona%20website%20reported.

Russian military personnel were convicted of 116 murders in 2023, Mediazona, an independent Russian news outlet, reported.

That's a nearly 900% increase from the previous year when there were 13 convictions, the UK Ministry of Defence posted on X.

The data came from Russia's Judicial Department of the Supreme Court's published statistics on the work of courts for 2023, Mediazona said.

Conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder and desensitization to violence bred on the battlefield often linger long after a military conflict ends. Alcoholism and drug abuse exacerbate these problems, said the UK defense ministry last week.

Those murders have to be extremely henious for Russia to actually convict them. Glad to know after this war, win or lose, Russia is bringing home thousands of homicidal drunks.

”an independent Russian news outlet, reported.”

I thought there were no independent Russian news. Western politicians says they are all spreading fake news and Putin’s propaganda.

”NEW YORK, Jan 12 (Reuters) - A survey of public records by The New York Times found at least 121 U.S. veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan committed a killing or were charged with one after returning home from duty, the newspaper reported on Saturday.”

Hmm

121 murders over a 6 year period

Vs

116 murders over a 1 year period

Parafags math checks out.

"Russian courts sentenced 116 contract soldiers and conscripts for premeditated murder last year, a dramatic increase from the 13 soldiers convicted in 2022 and 21 in 2021, according to the data."

and from the article on U.S. veterans.
"Some 25 of the offenders faced murder, manslaughter or homicide charges for fatal car crashes resulting from drunken, reckless or suicidal driving."

So you are trying to compare premeditated murder to all types of homicide.

A good example of how comprehensively fucked Ukraine is becoming. Something like 15% of its population will end up serving in the military during the war along the current trajectory (and for Russia 2-3% along the same path). Whatever gloom you want to paint for Russia, well it will be 5 to 10 times worse for Ukraine.

Its one of those things I have been talking about since 2003. The upfront costs of a war is one thing. According to the CBO, about 1/3rd of the total long costs of war (in a mandated government spending sense).

Zelenskij may seem a bit out of touch when it comes to his peace plans. But there is no plan B. Ukraine needs Russian reparations.

I would think that the Ukrainians serving are serving to protect their homes. What are the Russian soldiers serving for?

Lofty ideals sadly do not protect from trauma.

Murder
Well, as an American, you would know what motivates people to fight in wars abroad. What you wanted with mudhuts however, I will never know.

Point is, people always believe they are doing something for worthy reasons. Wars tend to end once they stop believing that. A Russian now is no different from a 2009 US dude stuck in the suck.

"Well, as an American, you would know what motivates people to fight in wars abroad."

Denazifying Europe.

"What you wanted with mudhuts however, I will never know."

You'd have to be more specific about which mudhuts. We've invaded a lot of them.

The average Russian conscript being forced into war is very different from Ukrainian willingly fighting for his homeland.

Uhm, you should use /s if you are being sarcastic.

Ukraine is the country with the unwilling. The volunteers because they have been fighting for a long time now. The mobilized conscripts because, well, if they had been willing, they would have enlisted long ago.

Russian forces in Ukraine are volunteer contract soldiers.

So, yah, you can strike out that theory as having any explanatory power.
