Utopia Talk / Politics / US violent urban crime up 40%

Member | Mon Sep 23 09:27:13 The National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), administered by the Census Bureau, just released its 2023 results. In summary: - Urban violent crime rates have risen by 40% since 2019, and were essentially unchanged from 2022 - Urban property crime has risen by 26% since 2022 - Suburban and rural areas, by contrast, have had statistically insignificant changes in violent crime rates since 2019 In other words, violent crime is up in the aggregate, but the increase is entirely due to leftist-run major urban centers. These findings directly conflict with the FBI's statistics, which leftists use to argue that crime rates have actually been falling. There are five reasons why the NCVS findings are far more reliable: 1. The NCVS figures are finalized statistics, while the FBI's are partial-year preliminary figures 2. The FBI switched its reporting methodology in 2021, making YoY comparisons difficult if not impossible 3. The NCVS covers the entire nation, while the FBI lacks data from a large number of law enforcement agencies, including the Los Angeles Police Department, and the agencies that do or don't report figures tend to vary YoY 4. The FBI (unlike the Census Bureau) is not one of the government's principal statistical agencies, which limits its ability to fill in the gaps in its data 5. NCVS captures crimes whether they are reported to the police or not, while the FBI only captures reported crimes, which is another way of saying that they fail to capture the majority of crimes (55% of violent crimes and 70% of property crimes aren't reported) So yeah. Crime in cities is way up. http://www...re-up-violence-cities-9ce714f6 |

The stated purpose of CPI is the professional development of conservative staffers and elected officials.[1] Under the leadership of Mark Meadows, since 2017 the nonprofit has grown sixfold[2] to become the "nerve center" of the MAGA movement |

"In 2023, the rate of violent victimization in urban areas was 29.6 per 1,000 persons, which was not significantly different from the rate in 2022 (...) but was comparable to 5 years ago in 2019 and consistent with the overall downward trend since 1993 (33.8 per 1,000)." |

Member | Mon Sep 23 12:48:11 I almost don't want to point out the painfully obvious here, but... *pssst* you know you can access the 2019 report as well, right? "Rate of victimization, by type of crime and location of residence Urban 2019: 21.1 2023: 29.6" No one cares about how it is compared to 1993, when tough on crime policies were still in their infancy...no one, and I mean no one, would ever want to go back to the crime rates of the early 1990s. Most of the rest of your posts were ad hominem attacks (though they were also kind of bizarre...how was the Conservative Partnership Institute involved here exactly?). I'd expect nothing from from someone who basically wants to outlaw conservativism in all its forms in the West. |

You have for an example armed Venezuelan gangs who are taking over buildings in Colorado. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3ZosZiNyRo Ultimately it’s the fault of your politicians… actually it is your own fault because you vote these politicians into power. iChihuaha | Mon Sep 23 18:22:51 CVS reports are great, this is how we could establish that there had indeed been an increase in sexual crimes in Sweden, despite shifting legal definition. Also how we established that most western European countries are more violent than the USA when accounting for all violent crimes and not just those with guns resulting in death. "Searched the entire study for 40%, but no mention of it in that context." It's above your pay grade! I did a full year of math at the university. I will show you. 21.1 x 1.4 = 29.56 You are welcome. |
