Utopia Talk / Politics / True Crime: Election interference
murder
Member | Tue Nov 19 05:30:53 The stupidest election interference. Frank Artiles (R), former Florida State Senator sentenced to 5 years probation after being convicted on 3 of 4 counts of election interference. What he was convicted of: * guilty of making campaign contributions in excess of $1,000 * conspiring to make campaign contributions over $1,000 * procuring the falsification of a candidate oath form What he actually did: * He paid some guy $50,000 to agree to be submitted as a candidate in the race for Florida Senate District 37 Sounds pretty straight forward so far, right? Well here is where it gets stupid. Why did he did he want this guy in the race enough to pay him $50,000? He had a "similar sounding" name to the Democratic candidate and he was hoping to confuse voters enough to help the Republican candidate get elected. Pretty stupid, huh? Nah, it's dumber than that. This isn't a case of getting some guy named Xavier Rodríguez to try to siphon votes from Javier Rodríguez. Nope, the "ghost candidate" he recruited was named ... * Alex Rodríguez I mean how could voters possibly tell two guys named Rodríguez apart? It's not like the Hispanic world is full of guys named Rodríguez or anything. |
