The first couple of months of euphoria, there was a noticeable dip in jobs, but that didnt last long. What has changed is that we do more editing of AI stuff rather than pure translations (this only really works with technical documents that are full of technical terms), but personally, I dont mind that. I was already cheating before then by copying paragraphs into googletranslate and using bits and pieces. Now, a lot of what I do is reading and correcting rather than hammering away thousands of words a day, which means less physical effort. Since then, contracts regularly state that using AI is forbidden. Nearly all AI texts would be considered sub-standard if written by a human, to the point that any translator turning that stuff in would receive complains, no more assignments and possibly not even getting paid for what they had turned in. Also, it seems to have reached a point of diminishing returns as it accumulates its own mistakes and rehashes that stuff. The quality seems not to have improved much in the last decade. The difference, I suppose, is now you can give it an order to produce text. But, otherwise, this is to a large extent another Muskian hype to please investors.
