This is embarassing. USA and Britain are directly involved in military attacks on Russia proper, and Russia respond with a puny strike at some unknown village in Ukraine? Russia needs to stop being nice and pretend it’s a ”special military operation”. They need to understand that NATO is directly engaged in a war on them and that in a war you destroy your enemy, thoroughly and entirely until there is nothing left.

It started with Maidan and a limited civil war in Donbas Russia involved itself in. The 2022 invasion is merely an escalation of an existing conflict. This argument is why quite a few countries are neutral.

Of course Ukraine is free to respond any way it likes if it feels it can deal with the repercussions. It does whine quite a bit more on social media than I would like if I wanted to think it feels it can deal with repercussions.

Ukraine itself says the war started in 2014. Its one of the stupid things it does in the name of nationalist fevour.

I don't support it. I am on record stating the 2022 invasion and occupation is worse than anything the US has pulled after 1945 (with the possible exception of enabling Israel to do the same thing Russia is doing).

I do however follow the just war template. Ukraine is not longer fighting a just war as continued fighting will not give any proportionate benefit. This changes the moment Ukraine seeks a negotiated end to the conflict.

So yah, the jergul living rent-free in your head is only spuriously related to the one posting here ;).

Whatever your thoughts on Maidan, it wasn't a casus belli for Russia to militarily intervene in Ukraine. Neither were the internal disorders in Donetsk and Luhansk.

Russia was concerned about their national security as the US had built bases in Ukraine, and Ukraine itself was interested in re-aquiring weapons of mass destruction, and NATO wanted to expand to the doorstep of Russia.

If the USA and Britain was allowed to invade Iraq because they were concerned, then other countries too has the right to invade countries if they are concerned.

But Russia also wanted to protect the population in eastern Ukraine as they were getting bombed and shelled by their own government (Ukraine).

So, Russia had every right to intervene in eastern Ukraine.
