Utopia Talk / Politics / OT - Sleep Temperature

Member | Thu Dec 19 21:13:35 --------------------------------------------- Tonight, before you head to bed, check your thermostat. Set it somewhere between 60 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit. People sleep better in that temperature range. “Not only in terms of maintaining sleep, but also of falling asleep,” says Alon Avidan, MD, MPH, director of the UCLA Sleep Disorders Center. That also goes for how long you sleep and how well. The exact number is hard to pinpoint. It varies from person to person. But a 5-degree range is easy enough to experiment with. http://www...t-sleep-adjust-the-temperature --------------------------------------------- If I set the thermostat below 73° F (22.8° C for the rest of the world) to sleep, I'd turn into a popsicle. I would have to sleep in a hoodie. What temperature do the rest of you set your thermostats to to sleep? |

large member | Fri Dec 20 01:24:55 Around 60 degrees gibberish in the winter and 65 degrees in the summer. Pfft@thermostat. The important sleep quality thing for me is fresh air circulating all night. A proper down duvet is a must of course. And they need to be swapped out every 5 years or so. You fellows are likely literally drowning in mites. Easy to kill in sub zero temperatures, but you would need a dedicated freezer or something for that job. |

Member | Fri Dec 20 16:18:29 During the winter my thermostat is set to 59. Summer I usually set it to 74 at night. I run a fan all the time but mostly for the noise. |

Moderator | Sat Dec 21 20:21:47 Depends heavily on the humidity and the ground temperature, which can make hot feel hotter or cold feel colder. But generally speaking, I'll keep it between 68-70 during the winter and 74-76 during the summer. On the rare occasion it drops below freezing and energy conservation is required, I'll drop it to 65 and insulate with towels/spare blankets, but can't go much below that without risking the pipes freezing. Texas is the only state that doesn't require winterizing power lines or plumbing, nor burying them deep enough to protect them from ground freezes. |
