Michael and Susan Dell donate $6.25 billion to fund ‘Trump Accounts’ for millions of American kids

Michael and Susan Dell on Tuesday announced that they are donating $6.25 billion to fund investment accounts for at least 25 million American children.

The enormous pledge will go toward helping fund “Trump Accounts,” a new initiative that offers investment accounts for children. The “Trump Accounts” were established as part of President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” and are set to launch in 2026.

The Treasury Department is set to deposit $1,000 into the account of every eligible US citizen child born from January 2025 through December 31, 2028.

The Dells’ charitable gift will go toward children ages 10 and under who were born before the cut-off for the Treasury’s funding. The Dells’ donation will fund $250 deposits for investment accounts for at least 25 million children, resulting in a total gift of $6.25 billion.

I'm sure the very first motion tabled under AOC's first term will propose to rename them Drumpf Accounts, and eventually it'll be amended to name them People Accounts with funding to institute them for illegals.

lol @ the idea that $1000 or in this case $250 is going to amount to anything for these kids.

This is what you do when you don't want to do anything for kids, but you don't want to make it too obvious.

"Genuinely hope the parents cant touch this money."

You're worried about $250 dollars? That's petty theft.

This administration is cutting thousands of dollars of aid per needy child per year, and you're worried about walking around money?

The magic of compound interest depends on the length of time accruing, and most people do not have investment accounts before 18.

A $1k account at birth, with 20 bucks added per month, at 5% interest, will be $130k at 65. That's a pretty good additional chunk for folks that otherwise might not have started investing until they were 28 at their first big boy job.

"A $1k account at birth, with 20 bucks added per month, at 5% interest, will be $130k at 65."

No it won't be ... because that money will be needed to make a tiny down payment on their college education ... assuming it's not needed for food or medicine long before then.

Also, by the time a child born today reaches 65, $130,000 will be worth about $1000 in today's money.

Murder, just take the L. You are complaining about what, exactly? That this won't set children up for life?

That depends on the complaint you are referring to.

The money involved in this is insignificant. "Trump accounts" are just another way of getting Trump's name on something that he hopes will last. Dell's donation is just a way to suck up to Trump ... even though the "Trump accounts" he's supposedly donating to don't qualify as "Trump accounts".

And as for parents getting their hands on the money, apparently the money is locked up until the child turns 18 or dies, so you don't have to worry about that.

"Trump accounts" are just another tax free wealth transfer vehicle for the middle and upper middle class.
