They are in such an indescribable cluster fuck of a situation vs what they thought it would cost in lives and material in a 3 day romp of Ukraine in 2022. Can you image if they would have spent all this war money and resources on being friendly to Ukraine and setting up programs for mutual economic benefit of the nations? They would have made huge inroads to having Ukraine shift to their sphere of influence over these past 4-12 years depending on when you start counting the start of the Russian violent fuckery.

Horses and mules are useful it turns out. I suspect the off-road capability that does not leave clear tracks for drones to follow. It has nothing to do with lack of vehicles and much to do about not following routes that drones patrol.If anything, Russia has too many trucks on the market (Kamaz and Ural are facing a difficult market due to Chinese imports).

The question is not if you would rather use a car, but instead would you rather walk 10km loaded down with supplies, or ride a horse (assuming you know how)?

Ukrainian and Russian have less lexical similarity (55%-62%) than French and Spanish (75%), French and Italian (85%-90%), and Spanish and Portuguese (90%)...to say nothing of the Scandanavian and Serbo-Croatian languages that are mutually intelligible. Let's not falsely characterize Ukrainian and Russian as brother cultures, that's a fiction of Imperial Russian propaganda used to perpetuate Russia's claims to Ukraine for the last several centuries.

Ukrainian shares a lot in common with non-religious hebrew. An ideological invention superimposed by nationalists to replace the germanic and slavic tainted Yiddish. New hebrew (as opposed to religious hebrew) gained major traction in the post 1948 nation-building project in Israel.

Hence the nessesity of massive cultural and language purges as an inherent part of the Maidan revolution. Not everyone is Ukraine agreed with that. Which gave the Russian supported civil war 2014-2022. You can reference earlier presidential election results to clearly see what regions are inherently against the Maidan project.

The obvious counterpoint is that the Imperial Russian and Soviet both spent extensive amounts of time attempting to Russify the population. If Ruthenians are just Russians by another name, then why was Russification necessary? All of this is kind of academic though. As an adherent of the Westphalian principle that the sovereignty of independent states trumps all else, I know that you acknowledge that Russia's claims or lack of claims to kinship with Ukraine mean nothing. Ukraine could be 100% Russian and yet Moscow would still have zero say how Ukraine should be governed; that power rests exclusively with Kiev. It really does say something that pro-Russian governments in Ukraine could only be elected when boosted by rampant Russian interference.
