Fed Chair Powell says he’s under criminal investigation, won’t bow to Trump intimidation

Federal prosecutors are conducting a criminal investigation of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell focused on the $2.5 billion renovation to the central bank’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., and his related testimony to Congress, he said on Sunday evening.

Powell said the probe is the result of longstanding frustration by President Donald Trump over the Fed’s refusal to cut interest rates as quickly and as much as the president has demanded.

“The threat of criminal charges is a consequence of the Federal Reserve setting interest rates based on our best assessment of what will serve the public, rather than following the preferences of the President,” Powell said in a video statement tweeted by the Fed’s X account.

The chairman warned that the outcome of the investigation will determine the future of the central bank’s decisions.

“This is about whether the Fed will be able to continue to set interest rates based on evidence and economic conditions — or whether instead monetary policy will be directed by political pressure or intimidation,” Powell said.

If you asked me who has more integrity between Trump and Powell, it's not even a question. One of these guys has seen his net worth double since coming into office last year, launched a crypto coin right before his inauguration for supplicants to launder money into, has manifest conflict of interests due to his continued holdings in the Trump Organization, accepted a jumbo jet gift from Qatar, undertook a $300 million teardown of the East Wing without going through any proper approvals, and used the US Armed Forces to conduct a glorified plundering raid against Venezuela, the revenues from which are now "his" to control (depsite that being a violation of the law).

Meanwhile, Powell's biggest crime is refusing to bend over to the President and set interest rates to zero in order to artificially boost demand.

These two are not on the same level, at all.

That should be a massive scandal, and it's not even newsworthy with this administration. Corruption and criminality have become so common that everyone just accepts it as normal.
