The last widely recognized and recorded "classical" lynching of a black person in the U.S. was that of Michael Donald on March 21, 1981, in Mobile, Alabama.

Michael Donald, a 19-year-old African American man, was randomly targeted, murdered, and his body was hung from a tree by two members of the United Klans of America (UKA). The killers were incensed that a jury had failed to convict a Black man accused of murdering a white police officer.
