So Trump is going to revoke the airworthiness certs for all Canadian jets because Canada won't offer the same exemptions to safety that FAA offered to Gulfstream to self certify software and wing icing - similar exemptions when offered to Boeing behind the 737 max fiasco.

I guess Airbus is laughing all the way to the bank.

The US sure does love destroying itself.

Based on the fact that Canada has wrongfully, illegally, and steadfastly refused to certify the Gulfstream 500, 600, 700, and 800 Jets, one of the greatest, most technologically advanced airplanes ever made, we are hereby decertifying their Bombardier Global Expresses, and all Aircraft made in Canada, until such time as Gulfstream, a Great American Company, is fully certified, as it should have been many years ago. Further, Canada is effectively prohibiting the sale of Gulfstream products in Canada through this very same certification process. If, for any reason, this situation is not immediately corrected, I am going to charge Canada a 50% Tariff on any and all Aircraft sold into the United States of America. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Seems to me the issue is Gulfstream doesn't want to give the certifying body the code for review nor meet standards for wing icing, the issue is very with gulfstream.

Why would any company with trade secrets ever supply their code to Canada for review? We just hand it over to China directly.

Well, apparently the Supreme Court's next round of opinions won't be until late February, and there's no guarantee that tariffs will be in there. Trump has at least another few weeks to fire off whatever tariffs he wants.

Well trump is seriously retarded because 1) politics should never effect aircraft certification and 2) even if you wanted to involve politics, the Canadian aircraft mentioned have a great safety record so tarrifs would be a more appropriate response and the concept of decertifying that fleet is retarded.

Canada is being a bit retarded because they are a tiny powerless state and don't rate their own decisionmaking. They should just copy the US and European safety regulators who have both already signed off these gulfstreams.

And all of this is extra retarded because there's 1 modern airliner that is actually unsafe in icing and its none of the planes mentioned here. it's the horrendous European made atr 42/72 which is by far the least safe modern airliner(considerably less safe than the Max). That thing slaughters passengers wholesale (I think we are up 6 entire flights wiped out in icing accidents).

If anything should lose its certification it's certainly that one.

Fly by wire flight control software is indeed considered a possible weapon and isn't allowed to be shared.

Although that point is moot as even the likes of Iran and Turkey can make good drones now and the Chinese clearly have excellent control laws for at least the quadcopter realm. This isn't exactly a difficult problem for little aircraft. Big jets with bendy modes are a different ballpark entirely but gulfstreams are not nearly in that category.

6 people just this weak were killed in a Bombardier private jet in Bangor. They were in a hurry to beat the snow storm. The plane flipped upside down on take off.
I'm thinking that this was a case where the pilot screwed the pooch and should have stayed on the ground.
