Gallup will no longer measure presidential approval after 88 years

Gallup will no longer track presidential approval ratings after more than eight decades doing so, the public opinion polling agency confirmed to The Hill on Wednesday.

The company said starting this year it would stop publishing approval and favorability ratings of individual political figures, saying in a statement it “reflects an evolution in how Gallup focuses its public research and thought leadership.”

"
When asked by The Hill if Gallup had received any feedback from the White House or anyone in the current administration before making the decision, the spokesperson said, “this is a strategic shift solely based on Gallup’s research goals and priorities.”

our dictator has repeatedly claimed the polls are all fake & there should be punishment... what more 'feedback' is needed

Any suggestion that Trump is not universally beloved by the people is defamatory, bordering on an act of lèse-majesté.

he's already openly threatened to sue them (& supposedly fake polls are included in his bullshit $15 billion suit against the NY Times), though entirely possible there's fear of imprisoning of people on Trumped up charges given he's threatened that as well & is acting on it w/ multiple foes w/ his fully corrupt DOJ

Trump should start his own polling company. A polling company that produce real and true ratings.

Maybe he can expand his Truth Social to also include Truth Polling.

he regularly posts that his poll numbers are their highest ever

no need to see the polls or for it to have any basis in reality

truly bizarre that this completely obvious idiot & fraud is still (& was ever) the 'president'

This is like when Argentina stopped measuring inflation.

Only the autocratic version where is not embarrassment but fear.

I wouldnt't put anything past these chucklefucks in the White House, but this move would be consistent with recent trends by pollsters looking to ditch services that they view as having become obsolete/non-profitable, and it's not like Gallup was the only pollster that tracked presidential approvals.

Absent additional developments in this story, I'm willing to believe that this is just coincidental timing, not prompted by Trump's midnight "all pollsters are FAKE and I'm going to sue them for eleventy billion dollars" posts on social media.

I'm way more concerned with Trump's moves at the BLS than by this story.

I absolutely believe this administration has been moving to politicize economic data releases - an unbelievably stupid and destructive move, especially given that the strength of US capital markets is underpinned by the assumption that the economu is reliably and honestly reflected in the numbers issued to the public.

That sort of shit is going to buttfuck us in the long term if it's allowed to become the norm.

Rugian, A theory...

Not a direct request from Trump, but if Gallup posted terrible ratings on Trump, a good share of the nation may dissmiss them, leading to less engagement on other polls etc.

If already was showingnits less profitable, why risk losing perceptual credibility with millions of people.

My mom for example, now posts on social media about how she hates muslims etc since the "muslim ban" and such.

Mind you, I grew up with most of my dads friends being Muslim, and one guy even living with us during the Gulf war in like 1992.

If Trump says the sky is orange, she will swear her life that it is.

Hmm. The sad thing is, yes that is plausible.
