Nothing they need to use fixed wing aircraft to bomb worth the slight diplomatic inconvenience it would cause Belarus by using its airspace to attack through.

On a broader note, Russia judges it could not hope for a better regime to fight against and has no interest in creating a failed state on its frontier.

I guess to some degree Russia needs the war to continue, as GDP is going to absolutely collapse the second all that military spending stops.

Not sure you would think government spending will stop in any event. You could say that spending and gdp growth would become more centralized again when combat payments to rural solldiers end, but that would be about it.

Massive wartime spending is ultimately harmful to GDP - the short-term boost eventually gives way to the long-term stagnation caused by the (now) years' worth of under-investment in more beneficial sectors of the economy.

Sukhoi is having a grand old time with this whole war I'm sure. The rest of the Russian economy, not so much.

Most of the spending is payroll. Like 85% or something when you include payroll everywhere. Sukhoi is a state owned company incidentally. Like most of the MIC. Including UVZ.

The defining thing is income transfers from center to the perifery as rural combatants are overrepresented in the combat zone.

Payroll is another way of saying consumer spending or consumer savings.
