So I understand that there US govt is giving Total 1bn to *not* build a wind farm.

Is there actual logic to this other than "I hate renewables so much I'll actually pay billions to a company to do nothing other than not build them".

Already a thread on that seb. My conclusion: Its just a subsidy to get a company to build an LNG plant. Pricy. The Feds probably could have gotten the company to break ground for 445 million (or whatever) instead of a billion, but subsidies are a normal part of the game.

But if it works by giving them 1bn, why not give 1bn to Iran in order to not build nukes?
