Well that's not very useful as plaintext, elon.

No U.S. F-35 was downed over Iran on April 3, 2026. Iranian state media and the IRGC initially claimed to have shot down a U.S. F-35 stealth fighter jet (described as the "second" such loss) over central/southwestern Iran using air defenses. However, this has been corrected or disproven by wreckage analysis and U.S. officials.f6be80696002

What actually happened (confirmed facts)
A U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle (two-seat fighter) was shot down over Iranian territory on April 3, 2026. U.S. officials have confirmed the loss to multiple outlets (including The New York Times, CNN, Axios, and specialist aviation sources). A combat search-and-rescue (CSAR) operation is actively underway to locate the crew.e7b89f4be485e8e5c6

indiatoday.in
Iranian media (Tasnim News, Mehr, Press TV, and IRGC-affiliated channels) released photos and video of the crash site and debris. Independent analysis shows this matches an F-15E Strike Eagle (not an F-35), including tail sections and other components consistent with aircraft from the 494th Fighter Squadron ("LN" tail code, based at RAF Lakenheath, UK). Some Iranian outlets later acknowledged or shifted reporting to an F-15E.25e9d8f432bd

This is the first confirmed U.S. combat loss of a fighter jet over Iran in the ongoing conflict (distinct from earlier friendly-fire incidents or the March 19 F-35 damage event).4d4adb

On the pilots/crew
The F-15E carries two crew members (pilot and weapons systems officer). Their identities have not been released publicly.
Iranian media claims: The crew ejected; survival was "unlikely" due to the impact/explosion, or one/both were captured after landing in Iranian territory. Some reports mention a bounty/reward offered to locals for capturing the pilot(s) alive, and that a U.S. rescue attempt (involving helicopters and possibly a C-130) was thwarted. These remain unverified Iranian claims with no independent confirmation.a7810a9a03d13cafe0

U.S. side: Search-and-rescue operations are ongoing inside or near Iranian territory. No official U.S. update on the crew's status (alive, captured, or recovered) has been released as of the latest reports. Some unverified social-media claims (e.g., one pilot rescued) exist but lack corroboration from officials.4304e1

Background and context
This is not the March 19, 2026 incident, in which a U.S. F-35 was damaged by suspected Iranian fire during a combat mission over Iran, made an emergency landing at a regional U.S. base, and the pilot sustained shrapnel wounds but was stable. That jet was not shot down or lost.d2d35b
No Pentagon or CENTCOM public statement has fact-checked today's event yet (unlike prior Iranian claims, which they have denied). Details remain limited for operational security.e177ae
news24online.com
The situation is developing amid the broader U.S.-Iran conflict. All Iranian claims of multiple prior F-35/F-15/etc. losses have generally been disputed by the U.S. in the past.
In summary, there are no confirmed facts about any F-35 being downed today—the Iranian "F-35" claim appears to have been a misidentification of the F-15E incident. The two crew members of the confirmed downed F-15E remain the focus of an active U.S. rescue effort, with their fate unknown publicly. Information is based on cross-reported U.S. official sources, Iranian state media, and open-source analysis; it could evolve rapidly.

Everybody fights you in Iran, nobody wants you there. An invasion with ground forces would mean 1 million dead Usanians.

Rybar says a helicopter was lost too. Maybe it's one of those damaged.

A Chinook was taken out I guess in the same attack that hit the F-16.

So you're losing aircraft to AA and air to ground now.

This is gonna get expensive fast. A few thousand marines aren't gonna accomplish anything.

We can tack on the cost of another A-10 replacement program to the bill for this war

"Iran running out of missiles!!!!!"

https://ww...-degraded-capabilities/3888357

01.04.2026 - Update : 02.04.2026

According to INSS data, Iran launched 215 drone attacks on Israel in the past week alone, accounting for approximately 28% of the total UAV attacks carried out over four weeks.

Considering that Iran had conducted around 500 drone retaliatory attacks on Israel as of March 19, the addition of 215 attacks in the past week indicates no significant change in Iran’s operational capacity.

INSS also reported that Iran launched 200 missiles at Israel over the past week — equivalent to 31% of the total 585 missiles fired over four weeks.
