rank | Sun Apr 12 15:07:16 My man Orban has been in office for the last 16 years, and for 20 out of the last 30 years, but he might be in trouble. JD Vance went to Hungary last week to stump for him. Trump has formally "endorsed" Orban and promised huge financial aid for Hungary if they re-elect him. And before any Europeans start whining about foreign election interference, the EU has spent the last decade trying to force Hungarians to vote against the government, putting the country under economic sanctions because they refused they import migrants were opposed to the whole LGBT mania. In an ideal world, Trump's and Vance's behavior would be abominable. In this world, the EU and the left opened this door, Trump and Vance are merely playing the same game. |

rank | Sun Apr 12 16:58:29 Rugian: The leaks over the past week showing the depth of collusion between Russia and Orban's govt over a range of issues it's eye opening. The US electoral interference on support of a Russian proxy hasn't gone unnoticed. We know Vance sees Russia as a natural ally and the EU as a threat. We know the US is colluding with Russia to undermine Europe. We see the looming cold war with the US. |

rank | Sun Apr 12 16:59:53 One day, god willing, the US population will liberate itself. Until then, we need to recognise it has fallen to autocracy and barbarism. |

rank | Sun Apr 12 17:17:14 No one sees the EU as a threat. |

rank | Sun Apr 12 18:09:25 Incorrect. The US tech industry sees the EU as a threat as it prevents them from abusing their monopoly power even further than they do already. Vance is of course one of Thiels protoges. At this point the US is basically a handful of billionaires in a trench coat. The rest of you are either staff (Vance etc.), resources (Sam), or the product (you). |

rank | Sun Apr 12 18:30:21 Seb You really do live in a weird little bubble. Do you also still believe that the US would flat out lose a war with the EU if it came to that? The timing of the alleged leaks is certainly not a coincidence. And anyway...if the EU wanted to complain about foreign election interference in Hungary, it shouldn't have repeatedly tried to fuck over Hungary's economy for having a government it didn't like. At the end of tbe dat, the EU is a massive woke bully. And yes, a bureaucrat out of Brussels is as foreign to Budapest as POTUS is. |

Membership in any club comes with requirements. That includes the EU and the US. If Hungary doesn't like the rules, they are free to leave just like the UK did. That's more than Kansas could do if they didn't want to follow our requirements for membership. - |

rank | Sun Apr 12 18:48:29 Murder Most countries entered the EU with the understanding that it was primarily a trading bloc. Not some sort of federal government that forces unrestricted migrant adoption and allowing fags to overrun society. I struggle to understand what any of that has to do with a common currency and the elimination of customs fees. |

rank | Sun Apr 12 19:13:38 It barely matters. The alternate candidate is from the same party as Orban and the policies EU dislikes are electorate driven. There will be no major shifts. |

rank | Sun Apr 12 21:42:23 you may still like he new guy's migration policies here's what AI says is their key policy differences: " Key Policy Differences - Anti-Corruption & Rule of Law: Unlike Orbán, who has been accused of systemic corruption, Magyar has centered his Tisza party platform on eradicating industrial-scale corruption and restoring democratic checks and balances to unlock frozen EU funds. - European Union Relations: Magyar identifies as pro-European and advocates for a "predictable partner" relationship with Brussels. He seeks to unfreeze billions in EU development funds by conforming to rule-of-law standards. - Defense & NATO: Magyar proposes a "sea change" in defense, aiming to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP by 2035 and reset trust with NATO allies, contrasting with Orbán's more isolationist and Russia-friendly posture. - Russia & Ukraine: While Magyar remains cautious about military aid to Ukraine and opposes its "fast-track" EU accession—mirroring some of Orbán's skepticism—he starkly differs by opposing the "rapprochement" between Moscow and Budapest. He has vowed to end Hungary's dependence on Russian energy by 2035. - Domestic Public Services: Magyar has placed heavy focus on reforming Hungary's healthcare, education, and infrastructure, which he claims have been neglected under Orbán's 16-year rule. - Migration: Surprisingly, Magyar has at times taken a harder line than Orbán on migration, promising to scrap the government's guest worker program to address labor shortages, which he views as a threat to national demographics. Areas of Continuity Despite his opposition, Magyar maintains conservative positions similar to Orbán on several cultural and social issues: - Social Policy: He has remained largely silent or vague on LGBTQ+ rights and gender equality, avoiding direct conflict with the conservative status quo to appeal to Orban's voter base. - Nationalist Rhetoric: He frequently uses nationalist symbols and populist messaging, positioning himself as a "true" conservative nationalist rather than a progressive leftist. rank | Sun Apr 12 21:43:25 The Hungarians deserve all the bad things that are about to happen to them. Trump and Vance have both made it very clear who they should vote for. But if they defy that, then they don’t deserve any sympathy either. |

rank | Sun Apr 12 21:49:54 Rugian: Hungary is free to leave the EU. The intent of the EU is very clear: "Ever closer union". You seem under the impression that the EU forces members to accept refugees. You are incorrect. Refugee policy is set by MS's; refugees can be returned to the first safe country as part of the Dublin agreement - which includes non-EU countries like Turkey that no MS would have been able to secure alone. Resettlement within Europe is a voluntary program. Saying the EU forces unrestricted migrants adoption is pure fantasy. You might as well be talking about the protocols of the elders of Zion. |

Seb
rank | Sun Apr 12 22:59:07 How does the EU force its members to accept refugees? It in fact does the opposite: it sets *minimum* criteria that asylum seekers must exceed to be granted asylum for Schengen countries. It made asylum rules tighter. You are repeating Russian propaganda that went along with their international use of Syrian migrants to destabilise Europe. Useful idiots for Putin. |
